Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria guarantees freedom of expression and the press. Section 22 of the same constitution confers the responsibility as well as the accountability of the government to the people and the press. As such it is absolutely necessary for the press to be free from external forces that will hinder them from discharging their duty. Practically speaking, there are many instances to show how media in Nigeria are influenced, by many factors including ownership and unethical practice in their reporting of conflict and diversity issues. This study is anchored by two theories; Authoritarian theory and free press theory, using the #ENDSARS protest as a case study. This article is set to examine the extent to which mass media in Nigeria were able to objectively report the #ENDSARS protest. The study is also designed to find out if there is any constraint that hindered the mass media from factual reporting of the #ENDSARS protest. Furthermore, the study is set to suggest better ways of reporting crises and conflict by the media.
