Happy to host a tour of our facilities & innovations, sharing knowledge to help prepare for the future.
As there are more and more wildfires around the world – Canada was hit particularly hard last year – specialized firefighting is becoming increasingly important. During her recent stay in Vancouver, our President & CEO Yvonne Denz had the opportunity to visit Conair Aerial Firefighting, together with Marc Eichhorn, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany. Conair’s Vice President Engineering & Programs Bernhardt Schuster, a fellow German, and Jeff Berry, Vice President Business Development, welcomed them on-site in Abbotsford and offered a grand tour through the facilities. The first of the Conair companies was founded in 1969 by Barry Marsden as a spin-off of Skyway Air Services, providing aerial firefighting and application work within British Columbia. Since then, Conair expanded, offering aerial firefighting services globally, with operations in France, Australia, and the USA. Today, a skilled team of 500 professionals equips the company’s 70 aircraft with the latest tools and technology, going above and beyond to ensure aircraft are ready to dispatch when needed to respond to wildfires. The Conair team flies up to 12,000 flight hours per year. With a focus on safety, Conair offers pilots a specialized Training + Tactics Centre, the only one in the world of its kind, providing access to simulators that produce successful missions in real world operations. It was inspiring to see everything Bernhardt and Jeff showed us; we learnt a lot and even got to try out the flight simulator! Thank you so much for opening your doors, Bernhardt and Conair team! Conair has so much experience in worldwide aerial firefighting, an expertise we can hopefully bring to Germany, too. German Consulate General Vancouver #Canada #Germany #PartnerWorldwide

Train like you fight, fight like you train. BC Wildfire: “This afternoon, Kamloops Initial Attack crews will be conducting a joint training exercise north of Savona on the Sabiston Creek Road in partnership with a Simpcw First Nation Initial Response crew. Part of this joint exercise will include air tanker practice to allow ground crews to cross-train with the Provincial Airtanker program. A birddog and skimmer aircraft may be visible flying north of Kamloops Lake and over the town of Savona. This cross-training is an important part of preparation for the upcoming season and will allow crews to coordinate and practice in a training environment.” #teamwork

The Northern Lights frame a large RJ85 airtanker, with its partner birddog, in Williams Lake - captured by Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Adam VanWorkum. Each of our airtanker groups is accompanied by a team of experienced professionals when deployed to remote bases for the wildfire season. Each team includes Pilots and Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, with an inventory of supplies. Aircraft Maintenance Engineers often work into the night after mission call outs to ensure the emergency response aircraft is ready to dispatch the next morning. Regular maintenance ensures operational safety and effective missions when flying in challenging conditions. #aerialfirefighting #airtanker #RJ85 #aircraftmaintenance #riskmitigation
