The Promise of Politics, a book she did not write, is a compilation of two book projects she intended to write in 1950s but then abandoned. The first project relied primarily on a set of lectures she had given on Marxism and was to be entitled Totalitarian Elements In Marxism " indicating a matter she had not discussed in her book The Origins Of Totalitarianism (1951) " (Arendt, 2005,p.vii). Her main concern in the first project was not just with Marx as a political thinker but Marx as a unique ending point of a western political thought tradition that was quite disastrous to politics. The second project was intended to complement her Mentor Karl Jasper's book Einführung in die Philosophie (1951) (Arendt,2005,p.viii) in it Arendt intended to discuss whatever happened to politics and the prejudices raised against it. She argued that the very tradition of political thought in the west since Plato largely marginalized genuine political experiences from the thought and world of men. And " In this sense the second project is continuing the first " (Arendt, 2005,p. ix)

It is noteworthy that the sweeping assumption of the fitness of democracy to handle challenges stands inapt when it comes to climate change. Though there are opinions believing that democracy is better than others in handling the diverse aspects of the climate phenomena, an equally plausible trend underlines the limitations of democracy, if not the merits of eco-authoritarianism. This requires an adequate understanding of the complex nature of climate change and the challenges it poses to democracy. In addition to exploring the strengths and weaknesses of democracy vis-a-vis these challenges.

Although climate change is impacting the globe wholly, it does not impact all nations and groups equally. Not only that, but also the very contribution to the formation, increase, and continuity of greenhouse gases differs among countries, as not all states contribute equally to the global emissions of greenhouse gases. Even within states, claims of climate justice are raised by MAPA (Most Affected Peoples and Areas)1 as climate changes hit disproportionately across the unequal lines of income, social status, gender, and urbanity. An extra demand was introduced to the climate justice sophisticated dilemmas: the temporal/climate justice or intergenerational justice that considers the demands of youth and the fate of future generations. However, through these entangled lines of debates, the discourse of climate justice tends more and more to forget its main mission. It is to understand the needs of underdeveloped counties to develop and industrialise, and this requires slower paces for curbing climate changes unlike the developed world. Yet, the current global discourse on climate justice tends to ignore this demand and press more for a concerted global action using new and challenging claims for climate justice.

Through his works, Descartes’ remarks on politics were notoriously inconsistent, contradictory and vague. Whether this was made intentionally by Descartes or not is still a matter of debate. What this paper argues is that reading René Descartes’ book Discourse On the Method by a coherent conceptual framework, like the Arendtian concept of the political, allows making such a picture of Descartes’ political vision attainable. This Cartesian political vision, when approached by Arendt’s framework, reflected deep modernist, utopian and antipolitical tendencies, and showed to some extent the kind of authoritarian politics René Descartes supported throughout his Discourse

This is to be conducted culturally to understand the Westernized character these pages tend to propagate and the politico-cultural significations of such a propagation. Design/methodology/approach Using visual and content analysis the paper analyzes both the written and visual contents of two popular Arab feminist Facebook pages, “Thory” and “Feminist doodles” to explore its culture relevance/Westernization via the categories of “re-employing the binary second wave feminism, the historical relevance and the Westernized tone of both pages. Findings The pages showed a tendency toward second wave, Westernized, anti-orient feminism. Such importation of feminism made the pages’ message not only a bit irrelevant but also conceptually violent to a large extent. Starting from alien contexts, the two pages dislocate the Arab women experiences of their situation for the sake ...

Then, how this concept offers new analytical spaces for understanding the modern nation-states inconveniences in African contexts. Design/methodology/approach The paper analyses the Mbitian African concept of time in light of the works on post-independence African state and communalism. Findings By using the Mbitian concept of time politically after explaining African communalism and African concepts of personhood and destiny, the paper reached a conclusion. This conclusion claims that due to the highly existential nature of the African concept of destiny and the past-oriented feature of the African concept of time, Africans cannot be restrained by any supernatural claim or any futuristic promises that are irrelevant to their context and cut from the communal values of ancestral past. Africans do not think supernaturally or bet for th...

However, the diverse literature on the politics/myth engagement neither offered a comprehensive study for understanding the different instances of the myth/politics engagement, nor tried to offer any analytical framework for analyzing political myths into political realities. Part of this inadequacy might be attributed to the multifaceted nature of both of the political and the mythological phenomena and the other part is due to the variety of shapes that political myths might take. For this reason, this paper aims from exploring the literature on the myth/politics engagement at offering a general theory for the study of political myth by exploring its different instances. Out of these instances and by focusing on one type of political myths which is the foundation narrative the paper will try to offer an analytical framework for the study of political myth into political reality. Foundation narrative is chosen due to its revelatory character of the different values political founders cherish and its ability to explore their vision for the future. This makes the concept of political myth of a practical importance to judge the consistency of politicians’ discourses and explore their vision for future. Focusing on Egypt, the paper will try to apply its analytical framework to analyze the different foundation narratives of the Egyptian state and the crisis of its current foundation narrative

Also It is argued that Viewing death on the individual level puts collective resistance in a paradox, only to be solved by posing the question of death as a social question for being a way out from death solipsistic tendencies .and finally how these arguments might benefit knowledge and society.

Do one needs to be western in order to be beautiful? African struggles to emancipate from Western... more Do one needs to be western in order to be beautiful? African struggles to emancipate from Western colonialism did not only tackle questions of government and power, it also tackled questions of beauty, feeling and taste. These aesthetic questions, though not always formulated separately as ‘aesthetic’, made the question of ‘who is beautiful?’ parallel to questions of liberation and nation building. However, African political stances towards the question of the beautiful represented some continuum ranging from a radical rupture with western political aesthetics taken by Steve Biko in his concept of black beauty, to some middle position taken by Senghor’s thoughts on Negritude and his concept of Métissage, to the other extreme where Taha Hussein called for a complete adoption of western categories. How these minds formulated the concept of the beautiful within their political struggles is the concern of this chapter.
