Back to album: The SPS tunnel with and without shuttering
The SPS, with its 7 km circular tunnel, extended CERN beyond the Meyrin site. Construction began in 1972.
The metal structure of the shuttering used when pouring the concrete walls of the SPS tunnel gave this remarkable optical effect.
