The displacement thickness of a flow that separates grows dramatically, changing the external potential flow and pressure field. The alteration of the pressure field causes a rise in pressure drag, and if it is severe enough, it may also cause loss of lift and stall. In this study, flow over a wing with and without vortex generators is analyzed computationally. At different positions and angles of attack, the impacts of vortex generators are investigated. The analytical findings indicate that an increase in pressure on the side of the previous separation causes better lift/downforce and less drag.

This is attributed to the fact that the intended meaning of a sarcastic text is contrary to what is expressed. Further, the use of code-mix language to express sarcasm is increasing day by day. Current NLP techniques for code-mix data have limited success due to the use of different lexicon, syntax, and scarcity of labeled corpora. To solve the joint problem of code-mixing and sarcasm detection, we propose the idea of capturing incongruity through sub-word level embeddings learned via fastText. Empirical results shows that our proposed model achieves F1-score on code-mix Hinglish dataset comparable to pretrained multilingual models while training 10x faster and using a lower memory footprint

Component sizing is a hard problem to solve, both from a computational and modeling aspect. This is because of competing objectives, requirements from multiple disciplines, and the need to find a good solution quickly for the architecture being considered. In current approaches, designers rely on heuristics and iterate over the multiple objectives and requirements until a satisfactory solution is found. To improve on this state of practice, we introduce advances in the following two areas: (a) solving the problem efficiently so that all of the imposed requirements are satisfied simultaneously and the solution obtained is mathematically optimal and (b) modeling a component sizing problem in a manner that is convenient to designers. An acausal, algebraic, equation-based, declarative...

An acute and fulminant presentation of this rare condition has been described in the literature as "Shoshin" beriberi which is characterized by catastrophic cardiovascular collapse. Early recognition and treatment lead to dramatic improvements of symptoms. We present a case of thiamine deficiency-induced acute heart failure in a malnourished patient leading to cardiac arrest necessitating VA-ECMO (venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) with improvement in heart function secondary to thiamine administration.

It finds applications in many NLP tasks such as opinion mining, sentiment analysis, etc. Today, social media has given rise to an abundant amount of multimodal data where users express their opinions through text and images. Our paper aims to leverage multimodal data to improve the performance of the existing systems for sarcasm detection. So far, various approaches have been proposed that uses text and image modality and a fusion of both. We propose a novel architecture that uses the RoBERTa model with a co-attention layer on top to incorporate context incongruity between input text and image attributes. Further, we integrate feature-wise affine transformation by conditioning the input image through FiLMed ResNet blocks with the textual features using the GRU network to capture the multimodal information. The output from both the models and the ...

We therefore measured viral load in previously RSV-naïve infants over prolonged time-spans. During 2014-2015, quantitative nasal aspirates were collected from 51 RSV-PCR+ infants. Multiple parallel assessments of viral loads were quantified at each collected time point using a well-validated real-time qRT-PCR assay. After observing viral load rebound phenomenon in some infants, the viral dynamics of 27 infants with sufficient longitudinal viral load data points were analyzed using pre-defined criteria for viral rebound. Additional analyses were performed comparing age with viral rebound, viral clearance rates, and viral load area-under-the-curve (AUCVL). The 51 infants (303 nasal aspirate samples; mean of 5.9 per-patient) exhibited slower than expected viral clearance. Lo...

Here, we describe a cluster of 5 neuroinvasive LD cases with BWS in the upper Midwest United States between July and August 2017.
