Meet Anisha: a new grad software engineer working to optimize Google Cloud’s data center efficiency. “I work on a service called ‘power capping, which allows us to power our services,” Anisha explained. “My role involves developing and maintaining the software that drives this power capping service, ensuring it’s reliable, scalable, and effective in supporting our growing infrastructure needs.” Before becoming a full-time Googler, Anisha spent a summer interning at Google. After converting to full time, she shared her thoughts on the process, the differences between interning and working full time, and her advice!

    • My journey from Google intern to full-time Googler
    • “After finishing my Google internship in August 2023, I kept in contact with my recruiters — providing updates on my senior year courses and career interests. Once I received my offer for a full-time position, I went through ‘team matching.’ This involved conversations with several different teams to find the best fit for my skills and interests. Eventually, I landed on my current team!”
    • “While internships and full-time roles at Google both provide great experience and opportunities for growth, there are some key differences. Namely, I now have even greater ownership over my projects, I’ve developed a deeper understanding of our systems and processes, and I collaborate even more deeply with my team.“
    • My advice is (1) Network Actively: Make an effort to connect with people. Attend team events, participate in social activities, and don't hesitate to reach out to people for advice or mentorship. (2) Be a Sponge: Take advantage of any resources available, and don't be afraid to ask questions, seek out growth opportunities, & ask for feedback. And (3) Prioritize and Focus: It's easy to get overwhelmed, so work with your manager to establish clear priorities. Focus your energy on tasks that align with your team's goals and your own professional development objectives!

Meet Vlad: a Bucharest-based software engineer working on the Fitbit mobile app. For Vlad, the opportunity to help build a product used by millions of people is one of the main reasons he was initially interested in working at Google. “I applied to Google because I knew it’s a place where you can have a global impact by coding and developing tools used by so many people (including myself),” Vlad explained. “It’s amazing to speak with your family, friends, or even random people on the street and see that they’re using something you developed. This type of reward is what makes Google such a special place to work.” Explore our opportunities for students and early career professionals ➡️ https://goo.gle/3yp5COl

Google’s Genesis program is our rotational program for new grads interested in finance. In the words of Brandon, a current member of the program, “Genesis is designed to equip you with the skills and experiences you need to thrive in the world of finance at Google. It's like a finance bootcamp, but way more fun!” Members of the Genesis program rotate through various areas of corporate finance — working on everything from creating financial models for product teams, to collaborating with stakeholders on process improvements. “The best part though,” Brandon explained, “is that early in your career, you get the chance to gain insights into how a company like Google operates — all while developing crucial leadership and problem-solving skills.” For Jessica, another Genesis Googler, what happens outside her core role is just as important as the skills learned in it. “What I value most about the Genesis program is the strong sense of community. Starting your career alongside a cohort of peers creates a safe space to navigate the challenges we face as young professionals.” Learn more and apply today ➡️ https://goo.gle/4hruzdM

Augustine is not only a Product Strategy and Operations lead for YouTube’s Core Experiences team, he’s also passionate about fostering diversity and inclusion at Google. “I founded and still lead the Black in Product Operations community and serve as a facilitator for our new Black employees onboarding program called The Collective,” Augustine says. He is also an active member of numerous other employee resource groups, including Black@ YouTube, the Black Googler Network, and Africans@ Google. “These communities have been incredibly valuable to me, offering a strong sense of belonging and opportunities for leadership development,” he adds. In his day-to-day role, Augustine helps teams track their progress. “This involves managing performance reporting, developing tools and dashboards to monitor key metrics, and collaborating with teams to ensure successful launches,” Augustine explains. Augustine's biggest takeaway since joining Google? “The power individuals have to create positive change, both within their roles and in the broader community.” Ready to join #LifeAtGoogle?
