The high-Tang literature closely associated with the fact that the high-Tang People intended to achieve peace and prosperity (taiping shenghi) through making rites and music . Thus, literature was subordinated to rites and music, and literati took it as their ambition to embellish and praise the great age. After the An-Shi rebellion (755-763), the mid-Tang people faced an urgent need of reconstructing the socio-political order and turned to the idea from Yi Zhuan, which emphasized that the sages influenced the human mind and the world would be in peace. It then became the new ideological basis for the mid-Tang people striving to re-establish the dynastic order by building people’s recognition of their identity. The new changes of the mid-Tang literature were also grounded upon this new ideological basis. These new changes aimed to educate people, replace the high-Tang eulogy literature with works focusing on the compliments and criticism of the current politics, and bring peace through influencing the human mind.
