On November 16 and 17, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra will be performing Ana Sokolović’s Concerto for Orchestra. It’s the first time she’ll be working with the TSO and conductor Gustavo Gimeno. We spoke to the composer about her start in music, and the work that Maestro Gimeno and the TSO will be performing.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Norma Marian Beecroft in her 91st year, peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
The award recognizes the composition and presentation of contemporary classical music by Ontario composers. Beginning in 2024, two awards will be made annually to an applicant from each of the Ontario Arts Council Music Creation Projects program application deadlines.

Composer Cecilia Livingston is the recipient of this year’s Louis Applebaum Composers Award. This year’s $15,000 award recognizes excellence for a body of work in the field of composition for theatre, music theatre, dance and opera.
The SOCAN Foundation is proud to announce that this year, 22 honors, totaling more than $45,000, are being awarded to SOCAN member composers aged 30 and under who’ve distinguished themselves through their composition talent in the Young Canadian Composer Awards.
Jointly administered by the Canadian League of Composers (CLC) and the Canadian Music Centre (CMC), this award hands out a total of $4000: $2000 for the recipient, and $2000 for an early-career composer/sound artist/creator of the recipient’s choice.
