In this paper, RF MEMS switches designed for redundancy logic have been extensively measured with promising results in terms of thermal and mechanical cycles. Packaging contributions have also been discussed.

The dispersion, the attenuation constant, and the insertion loss can be decreased and the excitation bandwidth can be increased significantly by using a double-layered structure. The propagation constant and the attenuation constant depend strongly on the physical and geometrical parameters of the magnetic film with large thickness. The excitation characteristics are associated not only with the physical and geometrical parameters of the two magnetic layers and the separation layer, but also with the location and geometrical parameters of the microstrip transducer. The effects of the magnetic damping on the radiation resistance and the propagation constant of the magnetostatic wave (MSW) are weak, and the presence of the magnetic damping mainly leads to the propagation loss of the MSW. In addition, the excitation of the MSW i...

In particular, yttrium iron garnet (YIG) possesses the intrinsic properties of dispersion and nonlinearity required for a system to support such a kind of waves. In this framework, experimental results on a novel nonlinear effect, related to the propagation at about 7 GHz of magnetostatic volume waves in YIG films having thicknesses ranging between a few microns to more than 100 μm, have been interpreted in terms of a solitonic excitation process. By starting from those findings, this paper presents an analysis of the experimental aspects as a function of the various parameters involved (i.e., thickness, frequency, wave vector, and so on) together with a concise discussion with respect to the presently available theoretical approaches.

The protruded cylindrical part of the inner conductor in a commercial SMA (Sub Miniature A) coaxial connector is tapered by a dynamic chemical etching process using ferric chloride. The technique is optimized to fabricate ultra-sharp probe tips with controllable shapes and tapered down to have a radius of tip apex around ∼1 μm. The detailed optimization facilitated the fabrication of reproducible high-quality probes suitable for non-contact SNMM operation. A simple analytical model is also presented to better describe the dynamics of the tip formation. The near-field characteristics of the tips are evaluated by finite element method (FEM) based electromagnetic simulations and the performance of the probes has been validated experimentally by means of imaging a metal-dielectric sample using the in-house scanning near-field microwave micr...
