English: Archaeopteryx ("Ancient wing") is a famous fossil of a feathered creature from Lagerstätten, Germany. It is said to have lived in the Late Jurassic, about 150 MyA. Although similar to modern birds, Archaeopteryx had a relatively long, bony tail and small teeth. It has for a long time been regarded as the oldest known bird, and a 'missing link' between reptiles (especially dinosaurs) and birds. However, modern research classifies it as a relative of birds and is put at the base of the clade Avialae.
