Image scaling request...

Article(s): s:Index:UKSI19810859.pdf as images in Page: content.

Request
Please scale these more appropriately (can SVG do that internally?) with respect to other traffic signs images in the relevant Commons Category and those used in the linked article. Asking here as it's simple task that an experienced user can do rapidly...

Graphist opinion(s)
@ShakespeareFan00, can you be more specific about what’s wrong with the size or proportions? Is it just the nominal pixel dimensions? Yes, with SVGs scaling is usually very easy—it says so right on the tin! But one needs to know what one’s trying to achieve.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 04:41, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is indeed the nominal pixel dimensions, I had drawn these at actual size, whereas the ones from the Traffic Signs Database are based on how they were sized for print reproduction, which are considerably smaller. I was wanting someone to scale these to be more suited to display on screen and print compared to the existing traffic sign images Commons holds.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 09:33, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Was there any progress on this? Or can it be tagged as stale?ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 20:50, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Flaspec The source you have provided is not good enough, it's impossible to create anything with quality from that. Would also need someone who can read and write the language (some version of Arabic) written on it and generally you would have to help with feedback and check on drafts. Fix those things and then you can ping me, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:37, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Flaspec: The pattern is complex as hell, and we need surely a picture with an higher definition to create a vector version of it. I think I found an high-quality picture of the cetral part ([1]) is it the same flag? Or, you could buy the picture ([2]) and send it to us to trace it. Sette-quattro (talk) 13:09, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Flaspec: @Sette-quattro: from what I get there is a reproduction (click on the "El Salón del Trono" tab), more info here. Here is a version shared by the Twitter account of the municipal museum of Burgos. Veverve (talk) 22:11, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec The source from twitter that Veverve provided looks good and to me it seems as it is the right version. Several of the others are something else. However then we have the question about copyright. The twitter account comes from museum of Burgos what I can see. So before I would consider taking this huge task I would need you to get a written permission according to OTRS. Before you can provide that I will not put in the amount of work needed for this. There is an email adress to the right on that link. So ping me when you have the permission, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:22, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: @Flaspec: I will not be necessary. From what I got from here and here, and especially here, the image shared by the museum is a scan of a 19th-century engraving from the book series Historia general de España desde los tiempos primitivos hasta la muerte de Fernando VII by Modesto Lafuente. With a few hours of research and a bit of luck I found this engraving is in Part 2, Book 1, chapter 12 ("ALFONSO VIII Y ENRIQUE I EN CASTILLA - De 1212 á 1217"). The volume on which this part is will depend on the edition. You can find a good quality scanned version with the engraving here (from here) at PDF page 34. You can also find it here (worse quality). Veverve (talk) 20:17, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Veverve: for all your work and knowledge on this, and you saying it is from an engraving explains why it looks different in colors and lines. But I have two questions.
  1. Is this engraving the same as file:Almohad Flag.jpg in all detail as you know?
  2. I don't speak Spanish but when I translate that page it says everything is under copyright. So then we are back to the same situation or what do you say?
@Goran tek-en: Thanks
  1. I have seen many versions of this flag online, I guess there is numerous reproductions since it is a famous flag. Looking at google image with "Banner of Las Navas" in Spanish gives numerous similar yet very different flag. I do not know if the engraving is the same as file:Almohad Flag.jpg.
  2. It is a 19th-century engraving, so there is no way it is still under copyright. todocoleccion.net is like Invaluable.com or eBay, it will states "Copyright ©", but there is no way you can copyright something which has fell out of copyright, it is at best a en:Copyfraud. Scans or pictures of 2D objects which fell out of copyright cannot renew the copyright and fall under Template:PD-art and Template:PD-scan. Veverve (talk) 23:10, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again Veverve, it is so difficult with copyright on stuff like this, I don't have deep enough knowledge but when I check your sources I agree with you, so thanks. Will now try to get in contact Flaspec to be able to work on this. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:06, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: @Goran tek-en: Thank you for your response. After searching the website provided by the uploader, I found a direct link with the description here [3]. --Flaspec (talk) 20:42, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Flaspec: I don't understand, that link doesn't provide any image I can work from. This source [4] page 34 is provided by Veverve, is that correct and can I work from that? --Goran tek-en (talk) 20:59, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Flaspec: What you proposed is the same low resolution image as in the beginning. Veverve (talk) 21:18, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Goran tek-en: Yes the image provided by Veverve is correct and has higher resolution indeed. I am ready to assist you if you need any help with the text (old Arabic script). --Flaspec (talk) 21:30, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Request taken by Goran tek-en (talk) 15:55, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Flaspec Great.  QuestionThe emblem you first showed is some kind of textil I guess, so it's not 90° in the corners, no straight lines etc. What I will create is an illustration of this emblem so I will work with 90° corners, straight lines etc. Is this fine with you? --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:55, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: Thank you for taking this request. Indeed, I think 90° corners is the correct choise. --Flaspec (talk) 18:03, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec Now I need your feedback before I continue. The drafts are as png but the original I work on is svg.
This is the upper left piece just outside the "circle". Is this look and detail level what you want?
@Goran tek-en: Honestly it looks far better than I expected. --Flaspec (talk) 17:48, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: I like how you fixed the corners (at 90°) without altering the original design. Kudos to you! --Flaspec (talk) 17:57, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec Thanks for feedback. It might be a while before I'm back because there is a lot work to be done.
For the text there are two options but I think a mix will be the best.
  1. I can draw them but some texts are very small so it's hard.
  2. If you can write them here it would be great, mark which is which, if you know a font that works well at wikimedia for svg files and arabic, please tell me. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:39, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: This is medieval script of Arabic (equivalent to Blackletter in Latin, for instance) so the first option is the best in order to preserve authenticity of the emblem (modern font wouldn't do). I noticed that existing flags/emblems belonging to the same era (like the emblem of the Emirate of Granada) also opt for the first option you mentioned. --Flaspec (talk) 19:18, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone please alter the above file for the flag of Seanchan, so that the three silver 3D lightning bolts in the hawk's claws are replaced with three silver 2D lightning bolts (template above) instead, as I think 2D bolts would contrast better with the 2D hawk than the current 3D ones. Also, I'd ask that the three new bolts be placed with the clutches of the hawk's lower claw, with one pointing straight down, one pointing diagonally left, and the last one diagonally right. Thanks. @Donald Trung: I thank you for your concern, however your version has some problems. "A."; "C", "a" and d of "Card"; and each letter of "Ottaviani" look a bit off. I would prefer if a Wikigraphist could either revise the version you uploaded or make one from scratch. Veverve (talk) 20:41, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: , I understand. I looked at the options on the website and I have seen other options like this one which is more faithful, apparently it defaults to option #2 (number two) which distorts the image a bit. I would advise you to try to use the website to see if you can make a better version and then overwrite the above one. I will try to overwrite it using option #1 (number one) and see if you like it more. Image request - State of Vietnam / South Vietnam

Article(s): en:Emblem of Vietnam (after discussion).

Request
I recently found the coat of arms of the State of Vietnam and the first coat of arms of South Vietnam on an old passport issued by the country. Currently on Wikimedia Commons there exists the second image which is different in several ways.
I do not want to request a replacement of "File:Coat of Arms of South Vietnam (1954 - 1955).svg" with a new image, rather I am requesting for the creation for two new images, one being a version of the coat of arms depicted on the passport but with the colour scheme of the image on the right in the middle and one of "a golden outline" (basically the image from the passport but without the red background), both in SVG. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 23:14, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Goran tek-en: Wow, thanks, it looks great. Though the Chinese dragon should probably be rotated a bit so it looks as if it's standing straight. I was comparing it to other dragons such as the Druk and the Lung / Loong, and I thought that the Manchu Qing Dynasty dragon comes slightly closer (the Thunder Dragon didn't have the correct tail plum or claws), but just rotating the current Vietnamese dragon (Long) a little bit will work well. Perhaps the dragon should also be slightly bigger. @Goran tek-en: , probably closer to "Image:Emblem of South Vietnam (1963-1975).svg" as it's the coat of arms of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) while the CoA of the QGVN had a dragon in the middle, the (small) VNCH CoA only displayed the flag. The "greater coat of arms" adds Dragons as supporters and a flame on the shield. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 19:04, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Donald Trung
  • @Goran tek-en: , excuse me, I should have clarified it in the original request, I want the coat of arms and not the (Presidential) seal, you can remove the circles from around the CoA and make the dragons either gold/yellow or green, probably upload a version of both as I have found contradictory statements on historical articles and I can't find the South Vietnamese law ⚖ that specifies how the greater coat of arms looked. But it looks really good, just no need for the circles.
Donald Trung It's always very hard to know what other people mean, it's so easy to misunderstand. Draft-2. --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:09, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Goran tek-en, almost, but please make the dragons yellow and use the same colours as the "lesser" coat of arms, so it stays the same colours as the South Vietnamese flag.
Yeah, I think that everyone probably has their own vision when they come up with a design and think that highly talented artists like yourself will "just get it" without realising that people can't just see what others have visualised in their heads. Excuse me for not being more clear with the request, though I hope to be able to learn to use Inkscape myself to not bother other volunteers, I should have been more clear. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 15:16, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The shield in this draft looks really good and the dragons are almost right, just the eyes, horns, moustaches, claws, Etc. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 14:51, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Donald Trung Now this begins to be strange for me.
  • You have provided a source that is just one color, red, and at a very poor resolution. Even the second source is not very good.
  • You have given me different colors you wanted the dragons to be in at different times. To my understanding it has been one color for the whole dragon all the time.
  • Now you are saying you want the dragons to be colored and much more in detail.
  • When I started with this I went by your information "one color, based on the first source". And from that information I started to work in a specific way.
  • Now you are asking for something totally different which means I would have to start all over but I don't have the sources for that. I need a better source.
  • So before doing anything else I need you to REALLY think of what you want. Write it down in a short specific text where you describe it so I (someone with out your knowledge) can understand it. If you want more details you have to find better sources which we are allowed to use regarding copyright. I hope you understand my point of view as a graphic worker, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 11:30, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: , I fully understand, at the time I wasn't aware of the presidential standard and only the shield (which depicted the dragons in a wrong colour). So my request evolved as I gained more knowledge and I should have made the request only after I had acquired the full information. I will upload the presidential standard to Wikimedia Commons so you can use it as a good reference point. As far as I know there isn't more to the coat of arms as what I have managed to find. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 17:34, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Donald Trung That one is also of very poor quality and you have to describe as I asked above. After that I will consider if I will take this as I see it New request. --Goran tek-en (talk) 10:37, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: , it is probably best to upload Draft-3. as it is the best of what I can find online. If I would find a better example of the greater coat of arms I would have shared it, but until I can go back again to the Museum of Vietnamese history in Tp. Ho Chi Minh I will probably not be able to find a better example, as this was all that I could find online. Excuse me for making it more complicated than it had to be. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 12:45, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hear ye! Excel .xlsx spreadsheet that automatically generates XML code for .SVG line graphs and column graphs

The XML code for Version 5 of this SVG image file (17KBytes; 2021-02-25) was automatically generated within Version 2.2 of this Excel spreadsheet.

FYI: I've just uploaded an .xlsx spreadsheet that (semi-)automates generation of a file with XML code for a conventional line graph in SVG format. You simply paste your X-Y data into the spreadsheet, and specify image dimensions, data ranges for X and Y, number of grid lines, font sizes, etc. The spreadsheet automatically generates a column of XML code that you copy and paste into a text editor and save as an ".svg" file. It avoids the "extra stuff" that Inkscape inserts, and should save you time. Feedback and suggestions are welcome. RCraig09 (talk) 23:41, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Seals of the Nguyễn Lords and the Nguyễn Dynasty

Article(s): en:Emblem of Vietnam, en:Nguyễn lords, and en:Nguyễn dynasty.

Request
I would like to request SVG images of the Nguyễn Lords and the Nguyễn Dynasty seals, the inscription of the Nguyễn Lords (and early Nguyễn dynasty) seal is Việt quốc Nguyễn Chúa vĩnh trấn chi bảo (大越國阮主永鎮之寶, "Seal of the eternal government of the Nguyễn Lords of the Great kingdom of Viêt") and the inscription of the Nguyễn Dynasty seal is Đại Nam thụ thiên vĩnh mệnh truyền quốc tỷ (大南受天永命傳國璽, "The Great South has the Mandate of Heaven forever and ever, this jade seal is for the transmission of the legacy of the Empire"). If possible I would like to know how the SVG seals are produced so I could do it myself the next time. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 13:32, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum, I also added the seal of the Bảo Đại Emperor when he was the Chief of State of Vietnam for conversion as it falls within a similar scope. For context the inscription reads "Quốc gia Việt-Nam - Đức Bảo Đại - Quốc-trưởng" (written in Latin script) and "國長保大" (written in seal script, Traditional Chinese characters for reference, but these scripts really shouldn't be grouped together as often as they are). --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:33, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of a new image showing a highway shield for Belgian highway N0.
--114.122.73.217 16:40, 27 February 2021 (UTC) Please create an image displaying 'N0' in the style of Belgian national roads, see the file BE-N6.svg for an example. The 6 could simply be replaced by a 0 [zero], a depiction of a zero can be seen in the file BE-N10.svg. It is the only one missing from the 0-99 series. Thanks![reply]

Please create a smooth SVG version of my MS Paint coarse free-hand(-and-mouse) drawing.
Would be nice if it could be similar in styling to File:4CT Inadequacy Example.svg.
The capital letter 'A' not necessary, I think.
Optionally, a two-point perspective may be applied to rectangular polygons, but it's not required. --CiaPan (talk) 15:36, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone please create some heraldic SVG templates of an Irish Wolfhound, based on the images seen here. Remove the white around the letter

Article(s): en:Schwabacher

Request
could you remove the white around the circular letter?
I did not dare cropping too much around this circular letter, for fear that I would remove parts of said letter. The circular letter is on a grey backgroud. Could you crop the image so that the white part around the letter is removed? --Veverve (talk) 01:13, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
@Veverve: ✓ Done--Mrmw (talk) 09:22, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mrmw: While I thank you for your help, as can clearly be seen when putting your version next to the first one you also cropped part of the letter. I am asking here so that a graphic designer can help for this task which requires precision; if I wanted to used CropTool I would have done so. Veverve (talk) 09:33, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: i don't get it - is there a loss of information? --Mrmw (talk) 09:44, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mrmw: you cropped too much of the image and so removed what should have not (i.e. parts of the circular letter). I think this cropping I request is so precise that it should be done with a graphic art software, not CropTool. Veverve (talk) 09:50, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: yes, very small blank parts of the letter - without information - i have no idea what is your problem - i would like to understand --Mrmw (talk) 10:12, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mrmw: Well, I would like the letter to remain complete. Veverve (talk) 10:23, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: - The cropping Mrmw - a proven graphic designer - did looks perfect here. There may be a technical problerm at your side. Pls checkyour cache etc. -- MaxxL - talk 10:28, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mrmw: @MaxxL: I have checked once again, and I confirm that the cropping goes too far and takes part of the letter, see here for height and here for lenght. Veverve (talk) 10:40, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
