Leaders from the University of Maryland, the state of Maryland and other partners gathered yesterday in Annapolis to launch an alliance designed to push innovations from quantum science and engineering into the mainstream and further enhance the region’s primacy in a field that promises to revolutionize society.

Led by UMD and including other local universities, industry partners and government labs, the Maryland Quantum Alliance will develop pioneering quantum technologies—including powerful computers, sensors and networks—and train the quantum workforce of tomorrow.
The A. James Clark School of Engineering's online graduate programs have once again been recognized among U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Master’s Engineering Programs as 18th in 2020, compared to 20th in 2019. In addition, our programs have been ranked as the 14th best school for Online Master’s Engineering Programs for Veterans.

The University of Maryland has joined forces with international research partners to launch the International Fire Safety Consortium, a new global research initiative that brings together worldwide knowledge and expertise to tackle the most critical fire safety challenges.

The U.S. Society for Biomaterials announced that Fischell Department of Bioengineering professor and chair John P. Fisher was named the 2020 recipient of the Clemson Award for Contributions to the Literature. The award honors an individual who has made a significant contribution to literature on the science or technology of biomaterials.

The Clark Doctoral Fellows Program was launched in 2017 to support high-performing engineering Ph.D. students at the A. James Clark School of Engineering as part of a $219.5 million investment by the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation.
