Support UH's Annual Food Drive for the Hawaii Food Bank

Now through May 9, 2024

Did you know that the Hawaii Food Bank, Kaua'i Branch partners with Kaua'i Community College to put on food distributions and is the main source of food and goods for the Ho'ai Food and Goods Pantry in the LRC? Without their generous support and the support of donors like UH faculty and staff, we wouldn't be able to have this amazing resource on campus.

How can you support the Hawaii Food Bank?

We are so appreciative and blessed with supportive staff who donate food and goods throughout the year. Thank you all so much for what you do to support us.

You can donate non-expired food items directly to the Food Pantry on campus (LRC 119) and we will coordinate with the Food Bank from there. Most requested items:

- Microwavable meals

- Canned meats (spam, vienna sausages, corned beef)

- Canned soups

- Cup of noodles, microwavable noodles

- Fresh produce is always welcome!

Study Abroad Opportunity

KCC student, Maria Aqui, participated in a fully-funded Intensive Study Abroad Program in Okinawa during the spring break. The program is part of the five-year collaboration between our long standing partner school, the University of the Ryukyus, and UH campuses (Kauai CC, Kapiolani CC, UH Hilo) and universities in Taiwan. Participants learned about sustainability issues concerning Okinawa through a series of lectures and hands-on cultural and educational experiences. A similar opportunity is coming in August, 2024 and application information will be forthcoming in the new few weeks.

Walk with us on Saturday, May 4 to support Kaua'i non-profits. Registration starts at 6 a.m. at Vidinha stadium soccer field. The walk starts at 7! The Charity Walk, founded in 1974 and expanded statewide in 1978, is now Hawai‘i’s largest single-day fundraising event by a non-profit organization. Since its inception, more than $45 million has been raised to support hundreds of local charities throughout the state. Spearheaded by the Hawa‘ii Lodging & Tourism Association and its non-profit arm the Hawai‘i Hotel Industry Foundation, the Charity Walk is traditionally held every May on Hawai‘i, Kaua‘i, Lana‘i, Maui, Moloka‘i, and O‘ahu. Money raised on an island or each county stays there. Last year's Kaua’i Charity Walk raised over $570,000 for 55 local charities and non-profit organizations.
