We then compare two apparently incompatible accounts of analyticity by Carnap and attempt to reconcile them.

In un capitolo di Non annegare, di cui sono debitore, si affrontava il tema dello statuto epistemico dell’inconscio sollevando in poche righe molti dei problemi che si sono tentati di affrontare nelle prossime pagine.
Il fraintendimento è invece una pura fantasticheria, nasce dal provare a leggere il termine inconscio i maniera innaturalmente letterale. In un senso freudiano non sono cosciente di ciò che ho rimosso ma in realtà so, tuttavia in un senso più lato non sono conscio nemmeno di tutto quello che non so o non credo; perché non ne ho mai sentito parlare, ne credo il contrario o perché è impossibile. L’esercizio dunque è non immaginare più l’inconscio come la soffitta della nostra mente, quanto piuttosto tutto ciò che ne è al di fuori.
A partire da ciò si è tentato di confrontare tutto ciò che avevamo ottenuto; nel primo capitolo ci si è domandati quale sia il rapporto tra la conoscenza della conoscenza e la conoscenza del fatto di ignorare e come ciò si possa declinare nel caso delle nostre credenze. Si sono esplorati nei successivi due capitoli tutti i modi in cui si può immaginare di credere qualcosa senza credere di crederla, ossia tutti i modi in cui si possa credere implicitamente. Infine negli ultimi due capitoli si è tentata una collocazione del catalogo appena ottenuto dal punto di vista logico e filosofico.

Cosa intendiamo per "Metafora" La definizione più comune, e dunque anche la più larga, di metafora è quella di una figura retorica il cui utilizzo consente di "parlare di due cose contemporaneamente". Questa definizione è però approssimativa per difetto; non tutte le volte che parliamo di due cose allo stesso momento stiamo utilizzando una metafora, è il caso della sineddoche, in cui si nomina una parte fisica per intendere il tutto o viceversa (e.g. "figli di Adamo" e "mortali" per "umanità"), della metonimia, in cui si nomina una parte in relazione per intendere il relato (e.g. "bere un bicchiere" per "bere il contenuto del bicchiere" appoggiandosi al rapporto contenitore-contenuto). Infine, non sono metafore nemmeno le similitudini, i paragoni e le allegorie. L'approccio dei filosofi al riguardo non è stato sempre questo, a partire da Aristotele che accorpa la metafora alla similitudine definendola una "similitudine implicita" (Aristotele, Retorica:1457b) e assimilandola in molti esempi a sineddoche e metonimie. All'atteggiamento di Aristotele, che potremmo anacronisticamente chiamare deflazionista, 1 se ne è contrapposto un altro speculare da parte degli studiosi di retorica-da Durmasais a Ricoeur-che nella metafora hanno visto un fenomeno irriducibile e fondamentale del linguaggio 2 fino a renderlo il motore che per mezzi talvolta misteriosi muovo il linguaggio stesso. Nelle prossime righe si tenterà di fare chiarezza sulla definizione e sul funzionamento della metafora, due nozioni che, come vedremo, sono profondamente legate l'un l'altra.

In queste pagine si vogliono portare all'attenzione, attraverso l'analisi di alcune vicende later... more In queste pagine si vogliono portare all'attenzione, attraverso l'analisi di alcune vicende laterali alla storia della scienza (nel nostro caso in particolare la teoria musicale), alcuni concetti di estensione più generale e di importanza fondamentale che hanno caratterizzato la prima età moderna e si sono avvicendate durante tutta la rivoluzione scientifica.
Ripercorrendo il dibattito sul temperamento armonico che si è sviluppato per più di quattro secoli (approssimativamente dal XII al XVII secolo) si potrà tracciare un parallelo con il dibattito più generalmente scientifico degli stessi anni; non solo perché, a ben osservare, si individuano analogie tra gli sviluppi dell'uno e dell'altro ma soprattutto perché gli stessi autori che furono protagonisti del dibattito scientifico dell'età moderna (Keplero, Cartesio, Fludd, Mersenne, Leibniz) hanno intessuto negli anni, con un ampio scambio di lettere e pamphlet, loro stessi un dibattito parallelo sulla musica che ora nelle bibliografie giace, se reperibile, negli anfratti delle opere minori.
Questo lavoro, senza alcuna pretesa di completezza, vuole ripercorrere questo affluente minore del discorso scientifico che, essendo in un certo senso tutelato dalle correnti più prettamente politiche e religiose (soffrendo, perciò, in misura minore della censura e delle ingerenze sia vaticane che protestanti) può mostrare con più chiarezza alcune evoluzioni del pensiero moderno.
Nella prima parte si traccerà una storia generale dell'origine della questione musicale e cosmologica nell'età antica e tardo-antica, la quale, nel passaggio dal medioevo all'età moderna, proseguirà nella disputa sul temperamento, gravida di riflessioni sulla natura della conoscenza umana - scientifica e spirituale - verrà trattata nella seconda parte. Gli argomenti fin qui presentati troveranno la loro summa nell'opera di Keplero che, raccogliendo l'eredità del dibattito antico e proseguendo quello a lui contemporaneo, tenterà l'ultima formulazione razionale dell'armonia celeste.
