The course design process, description and instruction delivery are discussed. The lessons learnt will be highlighted along with experiences and challenges from a first offering of the course during winter term of 2011. As a first assessment, major benefits of the course include for both students and faculty through providing increased interaction, increasing student intellectual maturity, and furthering faculty research projects.

A timely detection of the onset of a fault in a co mponent is crucial to a quality monitoring of a process if costly failures are to b e avoided. However, finding the source of the failu re is not trivial in systems with a large number of components and complex component re lationships. In this paper, an efficient scheme to detect adverse changes in system reliability and find the failed component is proposed in order to have an effective process qua lity monitoring. The monitoring scheme has been made effective by implem enting first the techniques of fixed-parameter Shew hart, MEWMA and Hotelling’s T control chart, and then the adaptive versions of S hewhart Chart, MEWMA and T 2 control chart for counter-checking the precision of quality reports. Once detected, th e fault isolation scheme uses a Bayesian decision s...

In conventional methods, the relationship of each face to a class is assumed to be crisp. The Fuzzy Fisherface method introduces a gradual level of assignment of each face pattern to a class, using a membership grading based upon the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm.

The approach is based on kinematic polar coordinate transformations. The suggested control scheme allows the robot to achieve stabilized near-optimal trajectories, while satisfying the hard constraints of specified initial and final postures (positions and orientations). Simulation experiments showing the effectiveness of the proposed technique are provided and discussed.
