About
Hello and welcome! I’m delighted you’ve landed on this page, whether you’re an ardent follower of the tech world, a fellow advocate, or someone just beginning their journey in this dynamic, ever-evolving landscape. My name is Kellyn Pot’Vin-Gorman and I’m an Advocate and Engineer at Redgate Software, having recently transitioned from my role as Director of Data and AI at Silk. Prior to that, I spent five years at Microsoft as the leading SME on Oracle in Azure within the Cloud Architecture and Engineering Infra team, and as a Principal CSA. With a deep-rooted background in technology and a passion for promoting its possibilities, I am excited to lead conversations and actions that shape the future of the industry. This blog, active since 2009, will continue to document my journey and experiences in tech.
This blog will continue to serve as a platform where I share my insights, experiences, and vision as I navigate through my new role. I’ll continue to explore topics ranging from technological advancements in the cloud, relational databases, AI and machine learning, to the importance of data to technology and how we can all contribute to a more innovative and inclusive technological future.
This Blog
I aim to foster an interactive community here, where we can exchange ideas, and collaboratively envision the future of technology. I welcome your thoughts, questions, and insights. Together, we can shape a technological landscape that is equitable, inclusive, and beneficial for all.
So, whether you’re a seasoned tech expert, an aspiring tech enthusiast, or someone curious about the intersection of technology, society, and policy, I hope you find value in this space.
Thank you for joining me on this exciting journey!
Technical History
I have over two decades involving multi-platform database architecture, optimization and infrastructure solutions for high IO workloads on-premises and in the cloud. I’ve recently been involved in a few incredible AI projects that happened quite by accident, but how many of us are accidental technical specialists? If you’re not fearful of failing, often this brings you the biggest opportunities! I’m a strong supporter for long-term success in a customer’s cloud journey. I serve on the Community Board for DZone. I’m an alumnus of both peer recognized technical programs, the Oracle ACE program and the Idera ACE program in the Microsoft community. I’ve just transitioned from a Friend of Redgate, to a full time role and I’m very proud to be a member and one of only six women who are part of the Oak Table Network.
Now that our children are out on their own, my incredible husband, Tim and I reside in an incredible floating home on the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon.
Volunteerism
I am still focused on WIT, (Women in Technology) and heavily on DEI in the Microsoft community, as I feel that we’ll soon have a large number of STEM opportunities left unfilled in technology due to lacking technical education in schools. I’ve changed to a more focused level of mentoring, having one-on-one individual and more traditional arrangements with those I mentor since the pandemic. If you’re looking to do more with your technical career, I do take 4-5 mentees on at a given time, so please feel free to reach out and check on availability. I still am a mentor for Tulane’s Women in Technology Program and work with one student a semester.
I am one of the co-organizers for the PASS Data Platform Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) group. My passion is around neurodiversity and minority groups becoming more inclusive in the technical industry.
I also volunteer for the Waterfront Organizations of Oregon (WOOO) as their Chief Technology Officer. My goal is to bring newer technology to benefit the waterfront community, as residents and for the businesses of the Portland waterways.

Diversity and Inclusion/Women in Technology
All books can be found on Amazon and Crushing the IT Gender Bias is available here on Amazon. Yes, I know Amazon thinks Kellyn Pot’Vin, Kellyn Pot’Vin-Gorman and Kellyn Gorman are three different authors…:)
Additional Publications and Presentations
I present and/or keynote at many conferences and events each year, including PASS Summit, Microsoft Ignite, Regional SQL/Data Saturdays, Oracle Cloud World, KSCOPE, HotSos and Collaborate/Blueprint 4D. I am the author of a number of technical and mentoring books as shown above, write articles and present webinars through Redgate, ODTUG and Oracle. Most of my presentation slides can be found on SlideShare. White papers can be found on github pages and on vendor sites, such as Microsoft, etc.
