scans and digitizes the images on medical films and
sends the digitized images to a Kodak Imager for
printing.
This manual provides instructions for operating the Film

Status Indicators

Indicator Description
STATUS Light
Off Machine power is off.
Green Machine is ready. You may insert film.
Green (blinking) Duplication is in process. Do not insert
another film.
Yellow (blinking) Machine is either warming up or in an
error state. (Refer to the display.)

Operation
Normal Operating Sequence
An operating sequence may include:
1. Applying power to the machine—if the system has
been shut down. (See page 3-2.)
2. Selecting the number of copies to be made of the
original—if the number is different from the current
selection. (See page 3-3.)
3. Selecting the image format for the copy—if the
format needs to be different from the current
selection. (See page 3-4.)
4. Selecting the contrast setting on the Imager, if the
contrast needs to be different from the current
selection. (See page 3-6.)
5. Making the duplicate. (See page 3-7.)

Turning Power On
1. Press the Power Switch ON. The display will
indicate INITIALIZATION. Initialization includes:
 A check of the DryView 7000 film path.
 A self-test of the DryView 7000 electronics.
 A check of the communications line between
the DryView 7000 and the Imager.
 A self-calibration of the DryView 7000.

Note
You may wish to leave power applied to the
system between copying sessions. If it is left idle,
the machine will go into a power-saving mode.

2. Wait for the display to indicate READY before

attempting to duplicate a film.

Selecting the Desired Number of Copies

1. With the first line of the display indicating READY,
use the MENU key to select COPIES TO PRINT.
2. Press + or – to display the desired number of
copies on the display.

Note
Normally the default number for copies is 1, and
the maximum selectable value is 5. However, if
you wish to have these default values changed,
they are configurable by service.

Selecting the Image Format

The DryView 7000 provides the following two image
formats:
 True Size—When true-size is selected, a slightly
truncated version of 14 by 17 inch film is digitized at
325 dpi, and printed within the standard borders of
the Imager output film. (The borders of the image
are “clipped.”) The duplicate has approximately a 1
to 1 size ratio to the original film.
 Full Copy—With full-copy format, an entire 14 by
17 inch image is digitized at 300 dpi, and printed
within the standard borders of the Imager output
film. (The scale of the copy is slightly reduced from
the original.)

Depending on the format of the film to be duplicated,

use the MENU and + and – keys to select the desired
image format as follows:
1. With the first line of the display indicating READY,
use the MENU key to select IMAGE FORMAT.

Selecting Contrast on the Imager

The Laser Imager has 15 different contrast settings
that can be chosen to optimize image quality of the
output film. The contrast settings allow original films of
varying densities to produce duplicates with the
maximum amount of dynamic range.
Using the chart below, select the contrast setting that is
recommended for the Dmin and Dmax of the original
film. For example, if the original film has a Dmin of 0.12
and a Dmax of 3.0, a contrast setting of 6 is suggested.
However, be aware that the densities shown in the
chart are “approximate,” and other similar settings
could produce good results from a user’s perspective.

Making a Duplicate
1. Check that the display indicates READY.
2. Sort the films to be duplicated according to size.

Note
The DryView 7000 allows a maximum of 30 films
to be placed in the three input bins at a time. The
films, sorted by size, must be centered in the
smallest possible bin slot. Insert the large films
first to reduce the possibility of jams.

3. Facing the DryView 7000, hold the films to be

duplicated with the top up and the text reading left
to right (normal reading orientation).
4. Insert the top of each film into the appropriate size
input bin, so the bottom of the image is up as the
film enters the bin. (See illustration on next page.)
5. When the films are loaded in the bins, press the +
key to begin the duplicating process.
6. To add film while duplicating is in process, press the
– key to pause duplication. When the display
indicates READY, load the additional film. Then
press + to resume duplication.

Maintenance
This section provides instructions for operator
maintenance of the DryView 7000. Maintenance
consists essentially of cleaning, and includes the
following procedures:
 Cleaning the film transport rollers by running
cleaning film through the film transport. (See
page 4-2.)
 Cleaning the light collection module. This
requires opening the front access panel and
lowering the light collection module panel to
expose the diffuser screen. (See page 4-4.)

Cleaning the Film Transport Rollers

The film transport rollers will collect dust from the film in
time. The dust can cause image artifacts on the
duplicate film, and can even scratch the original film.
Every 2 months, or if artifacts from dust appear on
duplicated film, clean the rollers. Use a sheet of
cleaning film from the Cleaning Film Kit (part number
78-8053-4118-3) as follows:

Note
When CLEANING FILM is selected, the duplicator
will not send information to the Imager. Therefore
the Imager will not print an image of the cleaning
sheet.

1. With the display indicating READY, press the

MENU key to display CLEANING FILM / Insert
Film.
2. Insert the cleaning sheet into the transport entrance
with the cleaning (adhesive) surface facing you.
(The display should now indicate CLEANING FILM
/ [+] to clean.)

3. Press + to begin. (While the cleaning film is being

sent through the transport, the display will indicate
CLEANING FILM / Cleaning.)
4. Discard the used cleaning sheet.
5. Repeat the process with a new cleaning sheet, but
this time with the cleaning (adhesive) surface facing
away from you. (When cleaning is finished, the
display will automatically revert to READY / Insert
film.)

Note
If the cleaning film sticks to the rollers, pull lightly
on the film from the bottom of the machine to
allow it to exit.

Cleaning the Light Collection Module

The light collection module measures the light as the
laser beam scans the film. Over time, dust can collect
on the diffuser screen of the module, resulting in image
artifacts on the duplicate film. Clean the diffuser screen
every 2 months or 500 prints:
1. Turn off machine power and unplug the power cord
from the wall outlet.

! Warning
When the power cord is plugged in, hazardous
voltages are present in the DryView 7000.

2. Pull down the front access panel (see View A on

the next page).
3. Unscrew the two thumbscrews securing the front
panel of the light collection module (see View B).
4. Gently swing the light collection module panel
forward on its hinges (see View B). (Move the panel
carefully, to avoid hanging up and damaging
cables.)

Caution
The translucent surface of the diffuser screen,
which is about 14-1/2 inches (37 cm) long and
1/8 inch (1/2 cm) wide, is easily damaged by
fingernails and jewelry. Remove any jewelry
(rings, etc.) that might accidentally contact the
screen. Also, never use solvents such as
acetone, benzene or window spray on the
screen. These solvents can permanently
damage the screen.

5. Using the alcohol wipes supplied in the cleaning kit,

carefully clean the surface of the diffuser screen.
(See illustration on the next page.)
6. Visually inspect the diffuser screen for dust, and
wipe it off if it is still visible.
7. When finished cleaning, reassemble in reverse
order of disassembly. Make sure the two
thumbscrews are retightened to correctly align the
light collection module.

Sending a Test Pattern Image

If problems are occurring in the digitizing and imaging
process, it may be useful to send an image test pattern
to the Imager for printing. The test pattern is stored in
the DryView 7000 and provides a means of testing
transmission to the Imager without having to scan and
digitize an actual film image. The results of the test can
be given to service for analysis prior to an actual
service call. To send a test pattern image:
1. With the Duplicator in a READY state, use the
MENU key to select TEST PATTERN / [+] to
generate.
2. Press the + key to generate and send the test
pattern.

Clearing Film Jams

When film jams in the transport rollers, one or both
ends of the film should be within reach. Clear the jam
as follows:
1. Grasp the end of the film and carefully pull it out of
the film transport.

Note
If possible, grasp the film from the bottom of the
machine and pull it down to clear it from the
transport rollers. Pull gently to avoid damaging the
film or the transport rollers.

2. The DryView 7000 will reinitialize and return to the

READY state. (If this does not happen, power off
and then on to reinitialize the system.)
3. When the DryView 7000 is READY, reinsert the
film to repeat the digitizing process.
