In defense of programming

Abstract

We all know that computing is exciting, yet students claim to find programming boring. We try to reassure them that computing is not just programming. While this is trivially true, I believe that it overlooks the fundamental place of programming in computing and can lead to adverse effects if pursued too zealously.
