Energizing RISC with reinforcement learning (RL) is feasible and necessary. Previous studies paid less attention to traffic engineering considerations and under-utilized traffic expertise to construct RL tasks. This study profiles the single-ring RISC problem from the perspective of traffic engineers, and improves a prevailing RL method for solving it. By qualitative applicability analysis, we choose double deep Q-network (DDQN) as the basic method. A single agent is deployed for an intersection. Reward is defined with vehicle departures to properly encourage and punish the agent’s behavior. The action is to determine the remaining green time for the current vehicle phase. State is represented in a grid-based mode. To update action values in time-varying environments, we present a temporal-difference algorithm TD(Dyn) to perform dynamic bootstrapping with the variable inte...

Obviously, transportation network is put intolerable pressure by a large number of traffic volume concentrating to Ro-Pax terminal to cause traffic congestion. Therefore, it is an important task to explore the feasibility of Ro-Pax terminal construction and carry out the traffic impact analysis (TIA) and assessment. This paper predicts and assign the traffic volume into road network to simulate the traffic situation of the main roads from macro perspectives. And then we quantify and analyzes the impact of building Ro-Pax terminal on intercity and adjacent road traffic to identify the vulnerable areas and intersections. Finally, this paper proposes some reasonable suggestions on the improvement of road network structure. The performance assessment of improvement schemes can provide decision support for selecting the best one according to different requirements. The research can improve the traffic accessibility so that the Ro-Pax terminal has a good traffic environment and better play its role as a passenger transportation center.

However, the capacity of this terminal may be limited by the long entrance channel and traffic rules for LNG transportation. Therefore, to evaluate the capacity of Liuheng LNG terminal, we establish an agent-based microscopic simulation model for ship operation (AMic-SMSO) to simulate the whole process of ship operation in and out of a port. We undertake a series of experiment scenarios to identify the bottlenecks and assess the throughput capability by analyzing waiting times, berth occupancies, and explore the effect of modifying the traffic rules on these indicators. The results show that this simulation model is a useful tool in determining whether traffic rules works well actually, especially for LNG terminal berth configuration plan.

Enhancing traffic safety and obtaining vessel messages in complicated and varied marine environme... more Enhancing traffic safety and obtaining vessel messages in complicated and varied marine environment has become the focus of attention. Therefore, Automatic Identification System (AIS) is utilized to get the vessel behaviors. In this article, we develop the vessel behavior analysis framework based on JPPF parallel processing framework to get spatial-temporal characteristics of vessel behavior in costal waterways. At last, 1 billion AIS data from Tianjin port in China are input into the proposed framework and vessel behaviors can be obtained, which can serve for vessel traffic simulation, safe navigation of vessel, supervision of the maritime sector and macroscopic dispatch of the country.

To support the design and management of ACTs, we propose a 3D simulation model to simulate the discharging and loading operation based on agent-based simulation and microscopic traffic simulation on the AnyLogic software. Finally, we apply the proposed simulation model in a real case to certify that this model can provide decision support for the design and management of ACTs with DTQC/AGV/ARMG.
