Abstract
We present a model of a deterministic asynchronous input/output device based on functions between sets of labelled posets. For a restricted class of these, it is possible to reformulate the model in terms of partial functions between monoids from which we obtain an extension of the conventional sequential automaton. We conclude with some remarks on extensions to this work and its relationship to other theories of parallel systems.
