Abstract
“Transcoding for Web accessibility” is a category of technologies to transform inaccessible Web content into accessible content on the fly. It was invented to help people with disabilities access inaccessible Web pages without asking the content authors to modify their pages. It does this by converting the content on the fly in an intermediary server between the Web server and the Web browser. The technology has matured along with voice browsing technology from circa 1992. In this chapter, we will first cover the history of the transcoding technologies, and then introduce technical details of these transcoding systems. Finally, we discuss future directions and technical problems.
