Definition

A moving image is presented to a user as a password strength indicator that speeds up as a password typed by the user becomes more robust. This indicator will appeal to users’ curiosity to speed up the moving image and therefore encourage users to create a stronger password.

Background

A nudge is any form of suggestion that influences a person’s decision behavior, from the point where the different options are considered to the point where an option is selected. Nudges are used in various industries including health care, education, security, ethics, and finance (Peer et al. 2020).

Acquisti et al. (2017) explain that nudges can be classified into two broad categories:

  • Physical design nudges. The popcorn stand at a movie theatre displays the box size and the price of popcorn. If the movie theatre wants to sell more large boxes of popcorn, then the price of the large box will cost slightly less than normal, although still more...
