Abstract
Voice communication is the most familiar interaction mode for people in face-to-face scenarios. People can participate in multiple dialogues by controlling their gaze, body orientation, and physical distance from the speaker. Participation in multiple dialogues results in sharing of opinions and information transfer among groups and can be useful for learning and generating ideas in classes and meetings. However, many telecommunication systems do not allow for such multi-dialogue participation. In addition, there are no clear technical guidelines for achieving multi-dialogue participation online. The purpose of this study is to propose a design guideline to realize multi-dialogue participation online. Based on the participation structure, this study defined symbols for describing the participation structure non-verbally and described statutes of multi-dialogue participation using graphs. This study also implemented CallMap, a telecommunication system, based on the graph. A method to realize multi-dialogue participation online was discussed, as were the advantages of representing the participation structure as a graph, issues in implementing the system, and the possibility of online communication independent of the physical interface.
