Abstract
College English teaching in China aims at learners’ being both bi-lingual and bi-cultural. This goal can hardly be reached if the content input of the teaching materials is exclusively target culture oriented. A survey reveals that many students have encountered setbacks in communicating with native English speakers, partially because of their aphasia. “English for Cultural Exchange” is compiled with an intention to fill in the missing link. The feature of the book is its highlighting on Chinese culture and its comparison with the counterparts. The paper discusses and emphasizes the importance of national elements in college English materials. It is maintained that being able to introduce home culture functions effectively in leading students into a positive learning circle.
