Abstract
The various possibilities that exist for obtaining multidimensional digital filters using the direct approach are investigated and a methodical synthesis procedure is developed. Then a theorem which can be used to obtain filters with fewer delay elements for a specific class of multidimensional filters is presented. The synthesis procedure is illustrated by examples.
