On the permeability of media consisting of closely packed porous particles

Flow, Turbulence and Combustion Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

A previous calculation of the permeability of a swarm of particles is extended to closely packed particles. An approximate model is introduced for the fluctuations of the mean density of the particles surrounding a central one and adjusted so as to represent the experimental results. This refined model serves as a basis for an extension of the calculation to particles which themselves are permeable such as occur in catalyst pellets.
