Ceramics Based on the NaRe2(PO4)3 Phosphate with the Kosnarite Structure as Waste Forms for Technetium Immobilization

Inorganic Materials Aims and scope

Abstract—

Ceramics based on the NaRe2(PO4)3 phosphate with the structure of the mineral kosnarite have been prepared by spark plasma sintering. Rhenium (Re) has been used as a chemical and structural analog of technetium. The relative density of the ceramics is 85%. We have studied the mechanism of Re leaching from the NaRe2(PO4)3 ceramics in static mode at room temperature. The rhenium leaching rate has been determined to be 1.3 × 10–5 g/(cm2 day).
