Abstract

The ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology (VRST) has become one of the major scientific events in the area of Virtual Reality since its debut in 1994. In November 2009, we are very pleased to return to Japan (VRST 1995 was held in Chiba and VRST 2003 in Osaka), where it takes place in the historic former imperial capital of Japan, Kyoto.

We are also very honored to welcome three distinguished keynote speakers: Markus Gross from ETH Zurich, Shiego Morishima from Waseda University, and Paul Milgram from the University of Toronto.

This year, VRST received 99 submissions (61 full papers and 38 short papers) from labs from five continents. The international program committee was made up of 45 esteemed virtual reality researchers. The program committee accepted 17 full papers, and 22 short papers (an acceptance rate of 27.9% for full papers, 23.7% for short papers and 39.4% overall). The program also includes 25 posters and demonstrations.
