Since 1992, the International Working Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces (AVI) has become a systematic biennal appointment for a wide International community of highly qualified researchers, who share the interest in the conception, design and implementation of innovative interfaces promoting individual and societal life quality improvements.
The 2012 edition has taken place in the spectacular scenario of Capri island (Italy), and has attracted an outstanding number of research paper submissions from 31 countries from 5 continents, which proves the ever growing interest that the covered research areas are attracting from the International scientific community. We were honored to count on the profound expertise of the members of the Program Committee to carry out a rigorous peer-reviewing process, which allowed us to select 54 high quality full papers, out of 193 submissions, with an acceptance rate of 28%. Moreover, we were able to select 46 short papers, out of 101 submissions describing promising work in progress, deserved to be presented to stimulate brainstorming discussions among participants on the envisaged research challenges. As a result, the technical program covers several interesting topics related to perceptual interface design, implementation, productization, evaluation and deployment.
