The application of recent gridding-based algorithms for stability analysis of Linear ParameterVar... more The application of recent gridding-based algorithms for stability analysis of Linear ParameterVarying (LPV) systems with general parameter dependencies is illustrated. Non-convex parametric domains and a large class of system parameter functions can be treated by these new Haar-based Lyapunov stability analysis techniques which are computationally implementable and solve the original infinite-dimensional and infinitely constrained problems, without requiring further checks even for arbitrarily sparse parameter grids. In contrast with previous theoretical results which are not constructive from the algorithmic and numerical point of view, approach illustrated here is systematic and amenable for practical implementation, avoiding complex analytical manipulations while considering a vast class of parameter dependencies. Numerical examples are used to validate and illustrate the algorithms. Keywords— Haar wavelet transform, linear parameter−varying system (LPV), parameter− dependent Lyapunov function, stability analysis.
Strapdown Inertial Navigation Systems (SINS) estimate position, velocity and angular orientation ... more Strapdown Inertial Navigation Systems (SINS) estimate position, velocity and angular orientation upon signals acquired by inertial sensors– accelerometers and gyroscopes - stiffly fixed on a vehicle. A SINS begins operating by the initialization process which provides initial position, velocity and alignment. The alignment algorithm estimates the SINS’s initial angular orientation with respect to local level Wander Azimuth frame. In general, the specialized literature deals with stationary alignment algorithms. This work presents an in-motion alignment algorithm based on work presented by Rogers (2003) considering azimuth’s angular deviation and inertial sensors bias estimations. In-motion alignment allows to restart the SINS after a long-time navigation, recovering system information accuracy and meeting the mission requirements without stopping the vehicle after, for instance, energy shutdowns or other failures. For warships the main advantage of in-motion alignment is to avoid delays in accomplishing missions or temporary vehicle’s exposures to potentially hazardous scenarios. The proposed in-motion alignment algorithm runs into two processes: coarse alignment and fine alignment. Both steps use Kalman Filters (KF) and aid sensors to improve estimation quality, providing position, velocity and attitude information with greater accuracy. An example of warship navigation is used to numerically validate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.
Complex environments, conflicting criteria, uncertainties, and inaccurate information are some ch... more Complex environments, conflicting criteria, uncertainties, and inaccurate information are some characteristics of many nowadays real-world decision-making problems. The Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methodology is one of the most used, perhaps because it drives decision-making processes to be more rational, efficient, and effective. Thus, the Armed Forces of several countries have used MCDM methods in the Life Cycle Management of Defense Systems (LCM-DS) to deal with military systems' complexity, breadth, and sensitivity. However, despite the rich and vast literature available on several MCDM methods applied to LCM-DS problems, there is a lack of a recent bibliometric study on this relevant subject. This paper presents an analysis of a quantitative approach based on bibliometric metrics to evaluate the application of MCDM methods in LCM-DS. By using the Scopus and Web of Science databases as references, this study focuses on the identification of the following aspects related to the research in this field: distribution of scientific publications, most relevant sources, interaction dynamics among these sources, most prominent subjects in recent research (trend topics), and application of MCDM methods in LCM-DS. Regarding the latter, this study identified the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as the most used method in the LCM-DS since almost a quarter of the analyzed works applied it in the original, adapted, or hybrid (combined with other methods) format. Finally, our results show that MCDM methods are commonly applied to LCM-DS problems in all life cycle stages, mainly in development, utilization, and support.
This paper presents a new quantitative prospective methodology for decision support in the field ... more This paper presents a new quantitative prospective methodology for decision support in the field of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). It defines a priority order for potential agreements between STI institutions from the quantitative modeling of certain specific features based on internal priority criteria of the organization seeking specific partnerships and attributes of potential partners. The suggested prospective analysis is based on weights of quantitative parameters taken from scientific literature, patents and business publications of the candidate partners, also weighted by sociocultural criteria of proximity between institutions. The final result is a listing of potential partnerships ordered according to indexes computed from weighting the partial scores obtained for each measurement criteria. A case study is presented in which research areas and lines prioritized by the Brazilian Army are used as the basis for defining a set of criteria to evaluate a group of countries in order to establish those most appropriate for cooperation agreements aiming at scientific and technological development.

LPV plants under consideration have linear fractional transformation (LFT) representation and specifications consist of a set of H2/H∞ conditions that can be defined channel-wise. In contrast to earlier results, the proposed method involves a specific transformation of both the Lyapunov and scaling/multiplier variables which renders possible the use of different Lyapunov functions and of different scaling variables for each channel/specification. Appropriate linearizing transformations on the controller data and on the scheduling function are then established to finally recast the problem as an easily tractable LMI program
