Néanmoins, les photographies présentes dans ces albums ne sont pas l'oeuvre de Xavier de Monteil, mais celle de Georges de la Sablière, un de ses compagnons de voyage. Cette nouvelle attribution nous a permis de mettre en lien le fonds du musée avec des fonds institutionnels (Société de Géographie (BNF), American Museum of Natural History), personnels (archives familiales de l'auteur) et d'avoir ainsi accès à de nouvelles sources d'informations. Celles-ci nous ont permis de documenter les conditions de prise de vue des clichés et de dévoiler de manière inédite leur valeur scientifique. Elle se traduit notamment par une importante diffusion du fonds auprès de sociétés savantes et de personnalités scientifiques éminentes parmi lesquelles George Thornton Emmons.
