Mais pourquoi un si long delai entre ces deux moments revolutionnaires, puisque l’esclavage et la traite des Noirs sont evidemment incompatibles avec la Declaration des droits de l’homme ? Parce qu’en 1789, le debat sur l’abolition...
L’institution servile, jamais abolie dans l’Antiquite grecque et romaine, a survecu sans interrup... more L’institution servile, jamais abolie dans l’Antiquite grecque et romaine, a survecu sans interruption sur les deux rives de la Mediterranee jusqu’a la fin du xixe siecle. Les esclaves y etaient de differentes couleurs, origines, religions ; mais on s’interesse principalement ici aux Africains subsahariens dans Al-Andalus et en Europe meridionale. On detaille les differentes traites associees aux diasporas forcees. On examine les cultes confreriques noirs tant au Maghreb que dans la peninsule Iberique. L’accent est mis sur quelques figures emblematiques, esclaves ou affranchis, qui se sont imposees comme sujets autonomes. Les differences avec le paradigme atlantique sont soulignees : ampleur du phenomene mediterraneen et transsaharien, pas d’esclavage de plantation, absence de revoltes serviles, disparition des Afro-descendants malgre la deportation de centaines de milliers d’esclaves au Portugal, en Espagne et en Italie.
