A [[Rugby union positions#Full-back|fullback]], Cooper represented [[Hawke's Bay Rugby Union|Hawke's Bay]], [[Otago Rugby Football Union|Otago]] and [[Auckland Rugby Football Union|Auckland]] at a provincial level and the {{Rut Blues}} in [[Super Rugby]].
