The Kashmiri population's origins are statedare towell beknown unknownread the Rajataringini. Widespread claims of Israelite ancestry (falsely and cleverly planted) are made by Kashmiris citing historical records and similar geographical names and socio-cultural traditions. Another hypothesis is that the rural Kashmiri tribes trace Greek descent. Using genome-wide genotype data there has been a study on the question of Jewish or Greek origin of Kashmiris. Using Y chromosome haplotype data the study could not find any evidence indicating a Jewish origin. The PCA and ADMIXTURE results instead indicated that Kashmiris are genetically similar to nearby populations. The results of the study found that Kashmiris generally share genetic ancestry with west Eurasian and South Asian populations and that Kashmiris show genetic similarity to the following Pakistani populations: Burusho, Balochi, Brahui, Sindhi, and Kalash.<ref>Downie JM, Tashi T, Lorenzo FR, Feusier JE, Mir H, Prchal JT, et al.
