:To be fair, its stability equilibria are subtle, and the current article omits that complexity. Ullmann gives an equilibrium constant for hydration (10<sup>&minus;27</sup>) that indicates hyrolysis really isn't spontaneous, except when working with [[hard water|hard]] drinking water. I'll try to incorporate some more material from the Ullmann citation etc. to clear up the ambiguity.
