Thanks for adding a comment at Talk:Laura Winter, I didn't fully know how to deal with it - just came across randomly from a template error category page :) FifthFive (talk) 00:03, 14 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

You beat me to vandalism, twice! You may want to consider applying for WP:ROLLBACK when you've been fighting vandals for a month. Be sure you are warning people (though I'm sure you are). Let me know if you have any questions!

TryAgainSooner (talk) 02:48, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

How the heck do you spot vandalism so quickly?

edit

Exactly what the title says. I've been looking out for vandalism by watching a bot spit stuff out into an IRC channel and reviewing the suspicious looking ones, but a lot of the time I find that you've beaten me to it! How do you do it? Sirocco745 (talk) 03:43, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have one tab with recent changes (live updates enabled), and ctrl+click to open suspicious diffs in new tabs before reviewing. I then use Wikipedia:Ultraviolet to revert and warn with the right reason if needed :) FifthFive (talk) 03:47, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Cool, I'll check that out a bit later :D Sirocco745 (talk) 03:50, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not revert the information i removed from the article of [[[2025]] until someone added the motorsports related events to the "events" of 2025 in next year. 2409:4073:492:6479:39BF:92A8:7618:929C (talk) 14:07, 10 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I noticed and reverted my revert. Sorry about that. FifthFive (talk) 14:08, 10 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
in next year, will you add these information to this article? On "events" if possible? Will you forgot to do that?
Is this unacceptable? 2409:4073:492:6479:39BF:92A8:7618:929C (talk) 14:09, 10 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

In the "events" of 2025 article, will you add name of the driver and the team as winner of a motorsport?.
For a better example: in 2022 FIFA World Cup, Argentina is shown as winning the world cup in the "events" of 2022 article.
Most people from europe, may don't understand my English because it's not good, but if you're native speaker of English language then I'm sure you will understand this message 2409:4073:492:6479:39BF:92A8:7618:929C (talk) 14:19, 10 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Sri Lankan Vellalar article

edit

Hey, please protect the article from vandals who keep adding pallar's pov to the myth origin. The sources they added say (The Sri Lankan Tamils Ethnicity and Identity, EDITED BY Chelvadurai Manogaran and Bryan Pf affenberge)

"From the Vellalar point of view, the stigma of Nalavar and Pallar rank, coupled with the history of these castes as recent immigrants from south India, denies that they have any real claim to membership in the Tamil community. In the early 1970s, some Vellalars expressly denied that Nalavars and Pallars were Tamils; and in tum, members of these two castes in the early 1970's still sometimes referred to Vellalars as "Tamils," thus driving home the social and cultural gulf that divided them from Vellalars. The Nalavars' and Pallars' recent historical origins in Dutch-sponsored immigrations from south India, and their putatively darl<er skin, also seive to deepen the Vellalar sense that the Minority Tamils are a people apart from the mainstream Tamil community. It should be noted that Minority Tamils do not always accept the view that they are non-Tamilians. The Pallars of Jaffna expressly conceive themselves to be descended from one of two Vellalar brothers; after the older brother's death, the widow--a "bad woman," according to the tale-made the younger one into a landless slave.25 In contrast to other low-ranking castes, which are (on the whole) remarl<ably quiescent, the Nalavars and Pallars have not hesitated to speak their minds about the injustice of their status. "

That is an invalid source for the claim. The source is right but the interpretation is wrong. That article's name is "Sri Lankan Vellalar". The origin of vellalar in't on the book. Many castes claimed to be Vellalar as the name was a source of prestige. In that case, pallar is an example. Someone has added misleading edits to the article. It is violating wikipedia's policies. 2409:40F4:2006:B160:C117:E00A:233C:723B (talk) 10:36, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't have the full context here and don't have prior knowledge with the content at hand, so I don't feel comfortable commenting on content. For dispute resolution, and after reading other comments you've made, I just want to remind you to focus on content. It will greatly help the process, and having the dispute focus on content only will make it more approachable to other editors. (this applies to both you and Luigi Boy). Thanks, FifthFive (talk) 20:44, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the source. That article says that the pilot was aiming for a Christmas 1999 air date - are there any sources that can confirm it actually aired then? FifthFive (talk) 21:24, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Um no it was cancelled by Nick Jr so it didn't air 207.204.65.147 (talk) 01:27, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Dates for episodes are typically when they're first aired, so the "(2000)" next to "Pilot" is correct. The year of production, 1999, is mentioned in the table. Thanks, FifthFive (talk) 04:29, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
But the pilot didn't air at all I don't think the year 2000 aired the show Joyfuljj (talk) 13:43, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
That information is referenced on the page (specifically from here). If you want to propose changing it, and have reliable sources that dispute the existing one, I suggest starting a discussion at Talk:List of Super Why! episodes. FifthFive (talk) 21:49, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi. That’s an IP used by a well known vandal on nowiki. He has targeted Znuddel, me and a third user (Anne-Sophie Ofrim) on nowiki, nnwiki, enwiki, dawiki, svwiki and simple-enwiki with harassment, uncalled for reverts etc. All because we – all of us are sysops at nowiki – throw him out when he comes with his vandalsim. I will ask for a global block of the IP now. 1000mm (talk) 22:41, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up, didn't know about them - I'll ask for the same in the future. I thought something was up because both people they reverted were from nowiki.. makes sense. For their talk page, maybe deny recognition? FifthFive (talk) 22:46, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

Hello, just a funny little question. I noticed that you contribute with the desktop environment KDE. As this desktop is primarily used on linux, I have a question for you: What distribution do you use for linux? I am just curious!   Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 14:59, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi - I currently use Nobara since it was easy to set up. It's Fedora but with some changes and some different packages. Now that I understand which changes I want/don't want, I plan to switch back to regular Fedora for better stability soon (when I get the time). :), FifthFive (talk) 15:32, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Alright! Nice to see another nice linux user. I use Arch (for my server), but I have used nobara as well! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 15:49, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Fifthfive : question about my edit

edit

I have just read your message informing me that my edit to the entry about Tout le Monde en Parle in November was removed for lack of neutrality. I have no access to my own edit if it has been removed, so although I would like to challenge the removal I feel my hands are tied. How can I proceed, please? Going from memory, my edit was 100% intended to add helpful information and details to the entry, as I have personal knowledge of the show both as an audience member and for having worked on the show itself, in the past. I would have preferred you open a discussion with me prior to removing the edit, which is quite discouraging to a well-meaning contributor. I fail to understand how adding information about a local, mainstream entertainment television show in a non-English market could in any way be construed as non-neutral! That is surely my biggest point of curiosity in learning how to be a better contributor. By the way, I see no clear "SEND MESSAGE" function here so I am using this venue here, hoping it makes it through to you. JayBishopIII (talk) 21:54, 8 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yep, you're in the right place. Your edits were reverted, not removed - they can still be found in the page history, here, and a combined diff of the changes can be seen here. I reverted them because the phrasing "a must-see Sunday night rendez-vous" sounded like flowery language. The linked page there has an example on how information like it can be imparted more neutrally, for example attributing & referencing the claim, just stating the facts, etc. For the list of notable guests, it would be better to cite a reliable source that mentions a few famous guests - the one added in those three edits felt shoehorned in / out of place.
Since you mentioned you've worked on the show itself, if you have a conflict of interest, disclose the connection (probably with a userbox or quick mention on your userpage).
Editors are encouraged to be WP:BOLD, which leads to reverts. I want to improve Wikipedia, same as you. Hopefully this helped. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here - and if I'm not around for a while, you can also ask in places like the Teahouse. FifthFive (talk) 02:34, 9 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
