Absurd comment by anonymous user

My edit was a grammatical edit. I have more education and work history in grammar than you do.

White males do not own the wikipedia entries. Quit being prejudiced. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.72.12.177 (talk) 22:13, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Wow, where to start? How about that in British English, commas, periods, etc. are placed outside of quotation marks. Surely with all of your education and experience you are well aware of this. Now, on to the more laughable parts of your comment: first, you have no idea as to the breadth of my education or "work history," and claiming that you are my superior in either is not only speculative, but clearly erroneous as demonstrated by your poor command of written English. Second, and far more important, you have no idea what race or sex I am, nor do I have any idea what race you are. (In case you are unaware, users of Wikipedia are unable to see through the computer screens of other users. It may also interest you to learn that the world is round and that water is wet.) I will not stand for being called a racist. If you make such defamatory accusations on Wikipedia in the future, you will be blocked from editing. faithless (speak) 23:00, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
In American English (which apparently the above user most likely practices since they hail from somewhere in Erie, Pennsylvania - check the IP) punctuation marks would be correctly placed inside the quotation marks... "Surely with all of your education and experience" you would recognize that the world is perhaps a larger place than the tiny little island they call "Britain." Unless they made the comment somewhere else on Wikipedia, they never mentioned you were a "racist" above - they simply said you were being prejudiced. And then in a typically tyrannical response, you countered with a threat to block them from editing on Wikipedia. I suppose this is just to demonstrate that you are a dominant member of your "species." Well done... Stevenmitchell (talk) 13:18, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
As far as I know we have never interacted, and I can only imagine how you came across my talk page, never mind why you decided to leave such an accusatory, hostile message in a thread which has absolutely nothing to do with you whatsoever. Nevertheless, I will reply. I am an American, and use American English. Therefore, your insinuation that I am British and your thinly veiled insult ("the tiny little island") is laughably absurd. It doesn't take an expert to realize that the language varies from place to place, as all languages do. It may interest you to know that the article which led to this discussion is for a British subject, and therefore British English is employed therein. This being the case, the user's edits were incorrect. I reverted them, and the issue should have died there. (This is a common enough occurrence, and was done with no malice. Every day countless well-intentioned editors on either side of the Atlantic take to their keyboards to "fix" spelling and grammatical "errors" on Wikipedia. And every day countless editors, myself included, have to clean up their well-meaning but nevertheless erroneous edits. We are rarely accused by anonymous IP addresses of being racists for fixing grammatical errors, however.) Unfortunately, I have since had to reply to asinine comments left on my talk page. White males do not own the wikipedia entries. Quit being prejudiced. is an accusation of racism if I've ever seen one - it would take an imbecile not to see that. As you are not an imbecile, I can only assume that you know this full well, and I will spend no more time on such a ridiculous assertion. Regarding my "typically tyrannical response," I never threatened to block anyone. I stated as a matter of fact that per Wikipedia policy, any editor who makes personal attacks against another editor will be blocked. And as for your odd statement about my "species" - well, I just don't understand that at all. faithless (speak) 17:35, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
  The Wikilink Barnstar
Oh man, thanks for going through that. EKindig added some good links, but lots of extraneous ones, and I was really dreading sorting through it. Thanks!-- Patrick {oѺ} 05:02, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Patrick! Yeah, it certainly wasn't fun, but it had to be done. It's always nice to be reminded that people appreciate the more tedious edits. :) faithless (speak) 06:02, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
My pleasure. This was somewhat an issue because I'd like to put Virginia back up for Featured Article Candidate sometime next week. So if there's anything you think the article needs before then, give me a nod. Hopefully you can support the article when it goes up.-- Patrick {oѺ} 19:02, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Tender age

It's not vandalism, apparently. See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AAdministrator_intervention_against_vandalism&diff=312547209&oldid=312545914. William Avery (talk) 07:31, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

No, it was vandalism. This has been going on for nearly two years now (since November 2007). It was a content dispute at one point, until the only guy pushing for the inclusion of this awkward, non-encyclopedic phrase was thoroughly "out-voted" on the talk page. He then went so far as to start a Facebook group encouraging random IPs to come to Wikipedia simply to edit against the consensus off established users simply because he didn't get his way. These people are nothing more than vandals having a laugh, and they need to be treated as such. faithless (speak) 20:15, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
