- A Thai vowel letter traditionally named ไม้หน้า (máai-nâa). It can be informally called สระเอ (sà-rà-ee).
When it is solely used with a consonant, it produces /eː/. It is also used as a vowel component to produce other sounds as follows:
- เ◌ะ becomes /eʔ/, without a final consonant.
- เ◌็ becomes /e/, with a final consonant.
- แ◌ becomes /ɛː/. There is the complete glyph for convenient typing.
- แ◌ะ becomes /ɛʔ/, without a final consonant.
- แ◌็ becomes /ɛ/, with a final consonant.
- เ◌าะ becomes /ɔʔ/.
- เ◌อ becomes /ɤː/.
- เ◌ย becomes /ɤːj/.
- เ◌อะ becomes /ɤʔ/, without a final consonant.
- เ◌ิ becomes /ɤː/, or sometimes /ɤ/, with a final consonant.
- เ◌ีย becomes /ia̯/.
- เ◌ียะ becomes /ia̯ʔ/.
- เ◌ือ becomes /ɯa̯/.
- เ◌ือะ becomes /ɯa̯ʔ/.
- เ◌า becomes /aw/, or sometimes /aːw/.
