Introduction
Burnley's first international was forward John Yates who appeared for England on 2 March 1889, in a 6–1 victory over Ireland in the 1888–89 British Home Championship. The majority of Burnley players that have received international caps are for the home nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. From the 2000s onwards the increasingly multinational nature of the team resulted in call-ups for players from across Europe (including Greece and Iceland) and also from the wider world (including New Zealand, Cameroon and Canada.)[4] In 2001, Ian Cox became the first non-British player to be capped, appearing for Trinidad and Tobago in a 1–0 defeat to Morocco.[5]
