COLT Studio Group was founded by famed photographer Jim French. French sold the company to Falcon Studios ex-president, John Rutherford, and John’s life-partner Tom Settle.
In 2007, COLT Studio Group celebrated its fortieth anniversary. Mayor of San Franciso Gavin Newsom signed a proclamation declaring February 23 2007 as "Colt Studio Day" in celebration of this anniversary.[1] This proclamation was very controversial, attracting criticism from commentators including Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, and led to changes in the procedures for issuing such proclamations.
