Hurry Up Tomorrow is the upcoming sixth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter the Weeknd, and the final one expected under that name. It will be released through XO and Republic Records, and will serve as a follow-up to his fifth studio album Dawn FM (2022), as well as the final act of his second album trilogy that began with After Hours (2020).
Background
On January 7, 2024, two years after the release of his fifth studio album Dawn FM (2022), the Weeknd first teased his upcoming record by posting the cover art for his previous two studio albums, as well as a black slide with a white question mark in the center, captioned by the number "3" on Instagram.[1] On July 23, he shared a CGI teaser titled "When you gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you", a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche. The teaser featured an animation of a young boy holding on to a mask of a woman's face before he starts levitating, seemingly frozen.[2] The Weeknd previously stated that this album would be the last one under his moniker "the Weeknd".[3]
On July 17, 2024, the Weeknd announced a special one-night concert in São Paulo, Brazil featuring "never-before-seen production", taking place on September 7, 2024.[4][5] A trailer released August 20 revealed the show would stream live on YouTube.[6][7] The album title Hurry Up Tomorrow was officially announced on September 4, 2024, a few days before the concert.[8] The album will serve as the final release in a trilogy of albums that began in 2020 with After Hours.[9][8] Fans have speculated that the trilogy is inspired by Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, drawing extensively from its themes, symbolism, and narrative structure, and mirroring the journey through Hell (After Hours), Purgatory (Dawn FM), and Paradise (Hurry Up Tomorrow).[10] In an interview with Billboard Brasil on September 6, the Weeknd revealed that a "central song" was composed in São Paulo, with the album exploring different sounds, which he nicknamed "frankenstein".[11] In the same publication, a collaboration with Brazilian singer Anitta was confirmed after months of rumors, although the article was ultimately removed by Billboard.[12] Hours before the concert on September 7, the album cover was revealed.[13][14]
The 90-minute concert was held in the Estádio do Morumbi, where the Weeknd performed over 20 songs from his recent albums, and debuted new songs from Hurry Up Tomorrow[15][16] including "Dancing in the Flames," "Run Away," and "In Heaven."[17] In addition to Anitta, the concert featured two performances by Playboi Carti,[18] including a version of Travis Scott’s single "Fe!n."[17] "In Heaven", the Weeknd's own rendition of the original from the 1977 film Eraserhead, was previously played at a Mike Dean show in Los Angeles in March 2024.[19][20]

The album cover for Hurry Up Tomorrow features a portrait of the Weeknd in a black tank top, locking eyes with the viewer in an intense, direct gaze, while holding tears back.[14]
