SM City San Pablo is the 37th shopping mall owned by SM Prime Holdings. SM City San Pablo[3] is the 2nd SM Supermall Franchise in the Province of Laguna. It is located at the entrance of Riverina Residential and Commercial Estates in Maharlika Highway, Brgy. San Rafael San Pablo City, Laguna has a gross floor area of 56,086 [4] featuring SM anchor tenants like SM Department Store, SM Supermarket, SM Food Court, SM Cinemas, SM Appliance Center and more than 80 shops and restaurants.

Mall Description

Occupying a total land area of 68,945 square meters [5] with a frontage of nearly 350 meters, the mall is approximately 400 meters from the northern junction entering the city proper and 2.4 kilometers from the city center. The mall can be reached from Metro Manila via the Maharlika Highway passing through the town of Alaminos, or the San Pablo-Bay Road linking to the Manila South Road.

The mall serves as a convergence hub for the city of San Pablo and the neighboring towns and therefore provides a tenant mix that best serves the basic necessities of a young, middle class market. More than 80 shops of popular fashion brands, personal care, health & beauty, basic medical services, specialty shops, IT, as well as fastfood and family dining venues. Providing support are SM anchor stores such as SM Department Store, SM Supermarket, Ace Hardware, BDO, Watsons, SM Appliance Center, SM Foodcourt and Global Pinoy Center (SM Cinemas will open in December). Ample, secure and convenient parking is available for more than 600 vehicles to ensure worry-free shopping.

Design and Interiors

SM City San Pablo, SM Prime Holdings' second mall in Laguna, has two levels and has 56,086 sqm of great shopping space. SM City San Pablo is a two-level shopping center designed to provide a dynamic and enjoyable shopping experience for customers. The building is located close to the front of the site for excellent visibility. The exterior of the mall is striking and modern, featuring a prominent identity wall that builds on the brand identity of the SM blue. It has a semi-eye shaped atrium for events. The mall's atrium has perforated ceiling for geometric impressions[6]. SM City San Pablo's design team includes Design Associates Inc., mall designer; Jose Siao Ling and Associates, architects; DA Abcede and Associates, project manager; and DDT Konstruct, general contractor.

History

As early as 2008, SM Prime Holdings was planning to open SM Supercenter San Pablo (a downsized SM mall, originally) but this was shot down due to political pressure. After several attempts to build a similar establishment, SM Prime Holdings was given its go signal in July 2008 to push ahead for SM Supercenter San Pablo[8] located at Riverina Residential and Commercial Estates along Maharlika Highway at Brgy San Rafael. It was expected to be completed in August 2010, but due to strategic location and growing demands for commercial establishments in San Pablo, it was upgraded into SM City San Pablo last April 28, 2010[9] and due to time constraints the mall opening was moved to October 1, 2010.[10]
