This account was in regular use 2005-2008, where I was one of the 100 most active editors per edit count.

I was hugely involved with Wikiprojects Denmark, Heraldry and Stub sorting back then. Since then I've limited myself to only making a few edits on rare occations, but from time to time I edit anonymously to check how people behave towards anonymous editors (which is quite poor).

Wikipedia drove away a lot of quality editors in 2006-2007 when adminship changed from a janitorial role that was assigned to everyone competent, to a complete popularity contest where quality editors working in complex fields saw their hard work ignored because some of their quality work involved disputed topics. Instead editors gaming the system by only doing trival edits regarding popular culture were awarded with the administrator role, and proceded to see it as a "god mode" invincibility shield instead of a janitorial role.

Two main problems made further contributions here a waste of time:

*1) The hateful atmosphere towards newbies that plagued Wikipedia back then has never been resolved (violating [[WP:BITE]], [[WP:AGF]]).

*2) A large number of administrators keep treating their favourite content as if they owned them, driving away other editors (violating [[WP:OWN]]). This goes against the core of what editing a wiki is about.


Combine these two fundamental errors with a Commons that has always been broken plus endless turf wars, and the only logical conclusion is that contributing to Wikipedia should never be confused with contributing something of value.
Who am I? Well, my real name is Jesper Valentin and the user name [[User:Valentin|Valentin]] was already taken by my brother :-) I'm a 31 year old Danish male living in [[Odense]], the third largest city in [[Denmark]]. I made my first edit on the English Wikipedia on 3rd May 2005.

I study Contemporary History and English at the local university, the [[University of Southern Denmark]] (formerly known as [[Odense University]].) In my spare time, I work at a major Danish furniture store.


Still seeing that [[WP:3RR]] and [[WP:OWN]] are violated as heavily as ever. Wikipedia will never grow up and will continue to be a cesspit of intolerance towards other editors. What am I doing here? I'm one of those Wikipedians, who don't make a lot of publicity about themselves, but who're nonetheless pretty handy to have around - just to say so, myself. :) I write articles like everybody else, but you might also consider me a bit like a janitor (although I'm no administrator).

I'm an active member of [[WP:WSS|WikiProject:Stub Sorting]] and an awful lot of my edits relate to stub sorting. Information should be as accessible as possible and in order to achieve this it needs a little bit of sorting and a little bit of order. I came across WP:WSS by chance but I stuck around. My articles primarily relate to Denmark (including politics, history and heraldry) but also a number of other topics. I've joined [[WP:MILHIST|WikiProject:Military history]] after realizing how much of the relevant Danish material is either non-existent or very incomplete. I have also spent much time on [[WP:HV|WikiProject:Heraldry and vexillology]] and I run the [[Portal:Denmark|Denmark Portal]]. Another long term project is an attempt to bring a bit of order to the already existing lists of Danish cabinet ministers, to add the missing lists, and to give each of these politicians a short (stub) article, and to give the [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia|Spoken Wikipedia]] a try.

I speak Danish, English and a fair amount of German (''be warned: my German grammar is getting rusty''). I understand a fair amount of Norwegian, some Swedish, and a little Dutch. Alas, I am unable to write the three latter languages.

This account was in regular use 2005-2008, where I was one of the 100 most active editors per edit count.

I was hugely involved with Wikiprojects Denmark, Heraldry and Stub sorting back then. Since then I've limited myself to only making a few edits on rare occations, but from time to time I edit anonymously to check how people behave towards anonymous editors (which is quite poor).

Wikipedia drove away a lot of quality editors in 2006-2007 when adminship changed from a janitorial role that was assigned to everyone competent, to a complete popularity contest where quality editors working in complex fields saw their hard work ignored because some of their quality work involved disputed topics. Instead editors gaming the system by only doing trival edits regarding popular culture were awarded with the administrator role, and proceded to see it as a "god mode" invincibility shield instead of a janitorial role.

Two main problems made further contributions here a waste of time:

  • 1) The hateful atmosphere towards newbies that plagued Wikipedia back then has never been resolved (violating WP:BITE, WP:AGF).
  • 2) A large number of administrators keep treating their favourite content as if they owned them, driving away other editors (violating WP:OWN). This goes against the core of what editing a wiki is about.

Combine these two fundamental errors with a Commons that has always been broken plus endless turf wars, and the only logical conclusion is that contributing to Wikipedia should never be confused with contributing something of value.

This message posted since I'm tired of seeing people taking a blank page as an invitation to try to log into my account, and of seeing admins interpreting a blank user page as an invitation to treat me as a doormat in the case I choose to make a few edits.
