As I walked along the road one night,

I saw an awesome sight

A parade of Ulster Volunteers

With their badges shining bright

A fearless band of fighting men

In line prepared to fight

To keep our Ulster's heritage

And defend our British rights

But as I stepped up closer

And their faces I did see

A chill ran cross my shoulders

As their names they came to me

These men who stood in front of me

Were the bravest of the true

That the Ulster Volunteers did have

Now I'll give their names to you:

John Bingham, Frenchie Marchant,

Brian Robinson was there too

Trevor King, Herbie McCallum

And Big Bill Campbell too.

Billy Aiken, Lenny Murphy,

It was a sight too see

As they lined up behind us

Urging us to victory

Squeak Seymour, Willie Miller,

Charlie Watson was there too,

Charlie Logan, Wesley Somerville

All good men through and through

Bo McClelland, Davy Swanson,

Geoffrey Freeman, Aubrey Reid,

Mark Dodds, Joe Long, Jim Cordiner

All there for me and you

Harris Boyle and Jackie Ervine,

Tom McDowell and Steve McCrea

Sinclair Johnston, Robert Bennett

Colin Caldwell and Joe Shaw

John McKeague and Tommy Stewart

Noel Kinner, Winkie Fry

Noel Shaw and Archie Waller

Side by side as comrades stood

Davy Hamilton, John Hanna,

Billy Lightbody as well

Alex Howell, Jackie Evans

Tom Mawhinney, Dave McNaught

Derek McFarland and Hugh Harris,

Not forgetting Tommy West,

Almost too many to recall

But I will do my best

There was Wandsworth, Neil and McIntyre,

Borland, Suitors, Brown,

McGregor, Chapman, Lenaghan,

All standing straight and proud

There was Hanna, Boomer, Keenan

Strain, Mahaffey too

Murphy, Bates and Deko Neil,

They made a fearsome crew

And in there too I saw some friends

Together once again

Two loyal Ulster Volunteers

Who in our hearts remain

Herky Nelson and Dear Martha

Were standing side by side

With countless Ulster Volunteers

Their heads held high with pride

And as I stood there watching,

Up strolled a brave young man

He said "My name's McFadzean

Can I join this gallant band?"

So if the time should come again

When back to war we're led

Remember right behind us

The Battalion of the Dead

Many men have not been mentioned here

There'll be many more to come

Each and every one of them

True loyal Ulster sons

Young men like David Philips

Cruely taken in his prime

Others like George Edgar,

Robin Jackson, Billy Giles

The ranks are never ending

Each order still obeyed

Your comrades here salute you

The Battalion of the Dead.
