Sultana Yeasmin Laila (born August 24, 1993),[1] commonly known as Laila, is a Bangladeshi singer. She participated in the NTV reality show Close Up-1, in 2012 (Season 4) and went on to win the contest.[2] She also won the "RTV Music Award 2020"[3] for the best YouTube Music video with her song "Sokhi Go Amar Mon Vala Na".[4]

Early life and education

Laila, born in Bonpara, Natore district, Rajshahi Division.[5] She passed her SSC in 2010 from Moukhara Girls High School and her HSC in 2012 from Bonpara Degree College, Baraigram, Natore. After winning the 2012 Close Up1 contest, she moved to Dhaka and studied at the University Of Development Alternative (UODA), She completed her Bachelor of Music in 2017 and her Master of Music in 2019 from the University of Development Alternative (UODA), Dhaka. Music career

Laila’s formal music career began in 2010 when she became an enlisted singer at Rajshahi Betar. From a age of 10, she was immersed in the world of folk music, guided by her father, Md. Shafiqul Islam Mridha, who was also a folk singer. She attracted considerable attention after winning the 2012 version of Close Up1. [7] participating for nine months in the program's various phases. She gained further popularity when she released her songs Sokhi Go Amar Mon Vala Na, Ontorete Dag Lagaiya Re, Mon Pakhi, Noya Bari, Amar Bondhur Mon Vala Na, Ek Khan Pan Chailam Pan Dilana, Apon Manush Chena Boro Day, and Tumi Mano Ar Na Mano. [8][9] Her songs continue to be popular today as she performs in Bangladesh and beyond.[10] [11] Laila is associated with Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. She has sung playback in movies such as Adam and Bhaiya Re.[12]She serves as cultural secretary of the executive committee of Bangladesh Baul and Lakoshilpi Sangstha, a cultural organization supporting Baul and folk song artists.
