The sun

[edit]

I disagree that it is important to distinguish that "Sol" is not the English name. Readers who reach this page are looking for something called "sol" or "SOL". If they're looking for the article on the Sun, then it doesn't matter to them that "sol" is not the English name. The article Sun can explain that distinction as needed. Instead, we should place the link to the ambiguous article first in the entry, again for the benefit of the reader trying to reach the correct page. -- JHunterJ (talk) 11:04, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is no reason not to include the information, and it benefits the reader. --Ckatzchatspy 20:19, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for engaging. The information in the article benefits the reader. The information in the disambiguation page only needs to help the reader find the article with the information. -- JHunterJ (talk) 02:05, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would second this; as an annoyed reader trying to find Sol_(star) it is much more convenient to explain that on the destination page, not the disambiguation page.50.5.39.42 (talk) 23:21, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I came here looking for the big thing in the sky and I got nowhere. What a joke 124.169.155.173 (talk) 13:08, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is the usage of SOL as an acronym for "Shit Out of Luck" notable enough to be included? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.198.26.33 (talkcontribs) 02:31, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. (I visited this page looking for that definition. The phrase is also the name of an album listed on this page, so I found it, but...) How should it be categorized? 164.119.77.210 (talk) 19:52, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. The album title already mentioned here is doubtless a reference to the common expression, which predates said album. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 32.97.110.58 (talk) 01:16, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

SolSol (disambiguation) – I think Sol should redirect to Sun because I believe it is the primary topic. 2601:183:101:58D0:21FA:6823:6996:3DB1 (talk) 23:08, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that the link to the solar system was removed, because it "doesn't fit in a disambiguation page". But I've seen cases where the entire solar system is referred to as Sol.

Should a link to the Solar System stay? I was thinking about placing the link further down, but that seems silly.

What do you think? Rockstonetalk to me! 04:04, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

S.O.L.

[edit]

I’ve read about this term in a translated article by Niall Ferguson at https://www.nzz.ch/feuilleton/niall-ferguson-coronavirus-politik-und-wirtschaftsdepression-ld.1552561. The expression ought to be mentioned here, but does not varrant a full Wikipedia entry. – Fritz Jörn (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:29, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
