Assessment 2009-10-16

[edit]

The article has a really good start. It's an easy read, and it's pretty well written. I wikified it a bit for you, and have a few quick suggestions:

Nice work overall! --Teancum (talk) 14:50, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, can someone add a part about Grizzleheim? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.170.201.71 (talk) 00:20, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Guide, tone, sources, and speculation

[edit]

This article needs a thorough reworking. Chief problems are;

  • Much of it reads as a guide to playing the game. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a game guide. This game trivia should be removed.
  • It addresses the reader "you" as if they were playing the game. Wikipedia does not directly address the reader in the second person as an active participant in the article subject. These should be replaced with references to the third person; "the player".
  • Acres and acres of this large article are entirely unsourced. Where is all this information from? Is it original research?
  • Much of this appears to be guess work, introduced with "seems" or "may". Wikipedia does not contain speculation or editors' best guesses of the facts.

Deletion of unnecessary sections

[edit]

The section on characters is unnecessary and should probably be deleted entirely. The section "World Access" is much too long but should not be deleted, just trimmed down significantly. The plot section and the pet section also need to be reduced. opinion. Rakomwolvesbane (talk) 01:08, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Notably, "World Access" section describes how the "free MMORPG" is monetized (opening paragraphs). This is important information and may deserve it's own sub-heading. Overall, useful knowledge is buried in the articles verbosity. --69.248.214.71 (talk) 18:14, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Excessive detail, POV

[edit]

I agree with the above criticisms. This article gives way too much detail which make it sound more like a game guide than an encyclopedia article. In addition, most of the language is gushing about how great the game is, how fun it is, etc. It sounds like it was written by the game's PR department. Needs major work to trim it down to what is important and verifiable. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 13:22, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mentioned/Possible Worlds

[edit]

Is there anything in the whole "Mentioned/Possible Worlds" that is worth keeping? It seems like useless WP:FANCRUFT to me - minor points that even most players wouldn't remember or care about. And it even states that it's essentially just a collection of (unsourced) rumors. (If there is no reply within a week I will delete the entire section per WP:SILENCE.) Bilorv (Talk)(Contribs) 08:29, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Bilorv: Got rid of the section myself, without seeing this comment. It was unambiguous to me. Mr. Guye (talk)
Pretty sure I've removed that section, along with masses more cruft, on multiple occasions, seems it keeps cropping back up--Jac16888 Talk 16:57, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

BRD consensus discussion

[edit]

@Bilorv:@Jac16888:@108.201.86.18:

User:108.201.86.18 has reverted my removal of the "Mentioned/Possible Worlds" section. I had removed the section because it looked like info that only a fan or player of the game would care about. Users Bilorv and Jac16888 seem to agree on me here. 108.201.86.18, can you tell us your reason for reverting my edit? --Mr. Guye (talk) 01:55, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editnotice

[edit]

I've recently been reverting quite a lot of edits which were clearly made in good faith, but simply add too much excessive detail to the article. It seems to me that this page — about a game targeted at children — attracts quite a lot of young and inexperienced editors. There is some precedent for using editnotices on pages like this (see List of iCarly characters for example), so I want to suggest that we add an editnotice like that on this page. This problem has been going on for a couple of years (see talk discussions above) and the article is already a mess as it is; I think this editnotice would stop some newbies wasting their time, limit the amount of reverting experienced users need to do and avoid cluttering up the page history. The editnotice would look something like this:

Any suggestions for adapting the text are welcome. If there is no opposition to this idea within a week, or active support for it, I'll make an edit protected request on Template talk:Editnotices/Page/Wizard101. Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 06:45, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

worlds in the spiral

Info on the spiral Zeliot1 (talk) 22:53, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest. That it is mentioned that you take a quiz similar to a personality quizzed to determine your school Zeliot1 (talk) 22:48, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you want

Thank you for your suggestion, but unfortunately I do not think this fact should be mentioned in the article. As I mentioned in my edit summary, the personality test is just a tiny part of the game—out of hundreds or potentially thousands of hours of gameplay, the non-repeatable personality test takes about a minute to complete. Wikipedia has guidelines on what information can and can't be included in its articles, and it does not allow indiscriminate information: we can have a "concise summary" of fiction (in this case, gameplay mechanics), but only the most important parts of the game should be mentioned. Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 22:25, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Heyy this talk is for talking about the spiral and only the spiral

Zeliot1 (talk) 23:15, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If anyone wants info or have info on the 13 worlds of the spiral come to my profile's talk page Zeliot1 (talk) 23:27, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Or want to know some secrets in the spiral Zeliot1 (talk) 23:28, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No, don't. @Zeliot1:, this page is for discussion about edits and improvements to this article, not the game itself. Wikipedia is nota social network, if you want to chat about this game, this is not the place to do it--Jac16888 Talk 23:38, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I meant the chat was going to be on my profile's talk page if you paid attention to both replies you would soon relize that both of them were together minidragon 23:58, 8 February 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zeliot1 (talkcontribs)

but thanks for telling me that anyway minidragon 00:00, 9 February 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zeliot1 (talkcontribs)

I'm well aware of what you said, and your talk page is not for that either.--Jac16888 Talk 00:13, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why? minidragon 11:35, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

People have been asking for that inormation minidragon 11:35, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

plus one day I hope to make a page on something similar to it minidragon 11:36, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Worlds

[edit]

I've added a small collapsible table in the 'Gameplay' section to include a list of the in-game worlds, given that it is a significant aspect of the game and many wikipedians have raised concerns over its lack of inclusion. I hope that this table will serve as a compromise to those who feel it is not relevant to the wider community.

-ThatJosh (talk) 14:09, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@ThatJosh: I love the table and think it's appropriate. I think it's missing Grizzleheim / Wintertusk, the latter of which has a level restriction. I added the two worlds but I'm not quite sure how to add the references to that table. JJA800 (talk) 23:54, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@JJA800: I intentionally didn't include those as they are side-worlds, but I guess they could be added. -ThatJosh (talk) 18:03, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed the title to just "Worlds", because I think it's better including Grizzleheim/Wintertusk. I've also added Wysteria, the other side world. @JJA800: which part of referencing are you struggling with? The references go on the first column heading—the code beginning ! colspan="15" | Worlds. If you need help writing the code for a reference, Help:Footnotes explains it, but the simplest way is just to do something like <ref>[www.linktoinclude.com Title of Reference]</ref>. Bilorv(c)(talk) 18:13, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Such tables are especially discouraged through WP:GAMECRUFT/WP:GAMEGUIDE/WP:LISTCRUFT. It would be better if they were incorporated in the prose, such as in a plot section ("the player can travel to worlds, such as ....") but not make it an eye catcher. Lordtobi () 11:49, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wintertusk itself is not a World, it's part of Grizzleheim — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.125.41.63 (talk) 17:41, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
