Etymology

Compound of 新橋(しんばし) (Shinbashi, literally New Bridge) + (いろ) (iro, color). Named in reference to the fact that it was popular with the geisha of the Shinbashi district in Minato, Tokyo, Japan during the end of the Meiji period.[1][2][3]
