[edit]Inherited from Late Latin folia, from the plural of Latin folium, probably from Proto-Indo-European *bʰolh₃yom (“leaf”), from *bʰleh₃- (“blossom, flower”). Cf. also the related folie and foliu, borrowed from the same Latin source.
