At the same time the concept of education emphasized the contrast to the second major building code of the Greeks, the ionic. This important order was used in many significant and magnificent buildings and I will analyze the Temple of Athena as a Doric temple.

It was not an important city until became the royal treasury location for King Lysimachos and an officer, Philetairos was entrusted to guard the treasury and later was the successor to Lysimachos. With the buildings, sculptures and the other objects, Pergamon became the most eminent center of culture of the Hellenistic period for 150 years. The famous Altar of Zeus in Pergamon is on the south of the theater.This Altar has the shape of a horseshoe. On the out walls there are reliefs which are called Gigantomachy Frieze. This frieze sculptures show the battle of the gods, who finally are victorious, against the giants (Gigantomachy).

Horace, a Roman poet, characterizes the relationship between Greece and Rome in his most famous verse (Horace, Epistles, II, 1, 156-157): “Graecia capta ferrum victorem cepit and artist intuit agresti Latio” (Thus, when Rome militarily conquered Greece, Rome itself was metaphorically conquered by Greece's civilization or artes, as Horace calls it.). The arts arrive in Rome partly as a spoil of battle taken from the defeated Greek cities.

She is currently in the Louvre Museum. The total height of the monument is 5.57 meters. The statue was discovered in April 1863 on the island of Samothrace, Charles Champoiseau, vice-consul of France Acting in Adrianople during a mission to explore the ruins of the sanctuary on the northern coast of the island. The bust and body are found separately, with many fragments. Fragments of wings, in particular, allow Champoiseau identify a representation of Nike, Victory traditionally represented in Greek antiquity as a winged woman. All these pieces are sent to the Louvre, where they arrived in May 1864.

This thesis examines the perception of polychromy in Greek sculptures over different periods by u... more This thesis examines the perception of polychromy in Greek sculptures over different periods by using archaeological and art historical data. To examine the usage of polychromy in Antiquity, ancient sources and technological methods have been assessed. The aim of this research is to understand the perception of color in the Greek period and to pinpoint the time of when this perception changed looking at a timespan from the Renaissance to the present. This studied identified possible motivations for the use of color in Greek sculptures: visibility, realism, meaning, completion, and tradition. It also revealed possible reasons for the rejection of color in the Renaissance and subsequent periods were also understood: contempt towards the Middle Ages, admiration for Antiquity, and establishment of a new tradition.
